Umm don't you think it's troubling that only geek bench shows the supposed superiority of A9x vs core M? almost every other benchmark the A9x gets spanked. Yes, it's the most powerful ARM based chip out there...but let's not get delusional and believe it beats or is on par with the newer i5 CPUs. I have both the ipp 12.9 and the rMB in my household and the rMB is by far the more versatile machine as I don't draw and have a use for the pencil..
Again,
So while the iPad is not at all a full computer, it's nothing to scoff at, and can easily compare to the MacBooks (except the Core i5 and i7 MBPs)
Perhaps you should read all of my post before throwing out insults, I'm sorry if somehow my showing some results of benchmark tests offended you. But i'm not "delusional" about them... (Geekbench being one of the most accurate ways to test the numbers, isn't wrong.) It isn't perfect, and I acknowledge that, but posting and showing the better results from the iPP isn't necessarily wrong eiter. The iPP is on par with some i5 processors, (The MBA being the one I said the iPP is on par with,) but then I went on to say it's no where near the i5 or i7 in the MBPs or iMacs.
I compare it to my brother's 2014 MacBook Air in real world usage... which is a reason I say it is comparable or on par to a MBA.

I use my iPP as my main computer and I find it's plenty versatile, I can't believe how fast and efficient it is. Comparing it to my folks Desktop (with a Quad Core processor clocked at 3.7Ghz with 6GB of RAM, my iPP runs circles around it.) Reason being is the software efficiency, and just the fact iOS is much less demanding than OS X or Windows.

You could also replace a $20,000 kitchen with 20,000 items off the McDonalds $1 menu.

Apples are apples. Oranges are oranges.

Saw this from another thread. Apt. And awesome ;) There's going to be a generation shift at some point. All of the kids are growing up with iPads, not Macbooks...Apple is right that a post PC world is coming. All of us hung up on traditional file systems, console and terminal computing, etc...we're dinosaurs.

Cherry picking the things an iPad does better and ignoring all of the things a laptop does better isn't a real compelling argument. I have a teenage daughter and neither she nor her friends use iPads, they use their iPhones and laptops. Technology will continue to evolve and things will certainly look a lot different 20 years from now, but the iPad has a long way to go and a lot of maturing before it is a complete laptop replacement - regardless of the age of the user.

I can wait until the next upgrade cycle, second quarter for MacBook Pro range I think. I may miss the pencil but £1,000 for an iPad!
Again this is the issue. It's the OS. If you had this hardware with an is that wasn't single task with no valid file system you'd be like ok, that's not too bad for a touchscreen ultra book. But the fact the powerful device runs iOS and iOS has not been properly rounded out for powerful hardware and effectively the iPad of any size is a giant iPhone in UI, leads people to say

$1000/1200 for an iPad!

If I told you I could get you s machine that ran as fast or faster than a MacBook Air, with the best retina screen you could find, and weighed .95-1.5 lbs pretty sure you'd join a waiting list.

I'm not singling you out. I feel the same way. I have to keep thinking ok, it's not sit an iPad anymore. It's as fast or faster than most laptops out there, including hack of apples laptop line.

Well, I work from home and use my iMac 2011 with second portrait monitor everyday with a Wacom tablet, using photoshop and a particular graphics program running on Snow Leopard (need to run SL for a PPC program, no questions asked)

I just wish to work away from my desk occasionally. I'm debating now using Screens 3 software. I can just view my iMac from anywhere in house and work. I am testing how practical this is. That is why I thought iPad Pro and Pencil would work, albeit expensive. (I've tried it through my iPhone 6s :) so it possible and if it was with a 12.9 screen and pencil ;)

I've tried Parallels on El Capitan with SL Server on my current iMac, it runs slowly with poor graphics in case I got a new MacBook

I am going to try Screens on my wife's MacBook Air 2013 to see if that works.

But you do get the ironic tone, right? It doesn't completely escape you?

Really? Did you see what the original title of the post was? The whole article is really a jab at the way tech bloggers review iPads, sprinkled with a dash of genuine sincerity. Mostly a satircal piece though.

I loved the article when I first read it a few months ago! It's hilarious and spot on. I don't know if richpjr scrolled to the bottom of the article and read the disclaimer, "Editor's note: The original title for this piece was "If journalists reviewed Macs like iPads"

I saw the original title and realize it was a jab at reviews. At the risk of playing semantic games here, irony isn't what I thought of when reading it. Kind of weak satire would be more accurate.

MacBook, Pro or Air to be updated soon, which one? The Air is long in the tooth, my wife has an older one.

The macbook: Decent spec upgrade in June, probably
Macbook Pro: Either a small spec bump or full redesign in June
Macbook Air: Dead man walking. Avoid at all costs.

I think the issue here is underestimating the iPad Pros or associating iPad with leisure product. The iPad Pros are so powerful compared to the current MacBook line up.
I know this won't last and it's very likely that the next versions of the MacBook will have some form of refresh. Waiting is always good with technology until something that suits your needs perfectly comes around.

Ok, yes, semantics - irony vs sarcasm vs satire. Ironic in the parts where he is being 100% sincere and satirical in the parts where he is embellishing and indulging a bit.

I think I can manage with 32GB, I won't have photos or music saved on it. So £679 seems better than the £1,000 I was quoting. Just looking if it is available a little cheaper. I'm advise not to buy a laptop yet anyway until the upgrade season.
