So hello there, I've been owning a iPhone XR for almost a month now and I love the device so far even though I got it with a contract. Anyways, for some reason I've been having this "regret feeling" because I didn't get a iPhone 11 and I'm afraid this device will be discontinued before the XS is discontinued due to the XR's 3GB ram and single camera. Should I return the device and stick with my old iPhone 6S or should I just keep the phone and and not worry about the regret feeling.

No, it is not a bad idea. I have an iPhone 11 but actually there is no big difference between iPhone 11 and XR. You can buy an iPhone XR if you do not care for additional camera features (ultra wide, night mode etc.).
Yeah I don't really use the camera much except I see something that's worth to take a picture of.
Give yourself a shake and enjoy your XR, it will be supported for years to come.
Ah, that's good.

When Apple drops devices now it's almost always done by chipset generation (in this case A12) rather than specific features or RAM (RAM has been a factor in the past, though) so expect the XR to be supported every bit as long as the XS and XS Max.

I say you should have gotten an iPhone 11. The iPhone XR will get iOS support for years to come for sure, but it's still an 'old' device. The iPhone 11 is only £100 more than the XR and the internal upgrades it carries seems much more worth while.

It's not the end of the world, but I too was wondering about getting an XR and realised that I'd be going from an old device (an iPhone SE) to an old-ish device; an XR.

If you're going to go new, you might as well get an actual new phone.

Each to their own of course, just my opinion.

you know it's time to step back, take a pause & reflect on your life if not purchasing the most recent apple gadget is getting you down.
A healthier outlook is to always buy a used idevice a few years old and never directly from Apple. Giving them as little money as possible is something that can give you great joy.

It will be supported by Apple for years, even if they do discontinue it.

If you enjoy it, won't worry about it. If you feel the money you have paid for it is worthwhile, don't worry about it.

My wife has one - It's a great, underrated phone

I bought a new XR for my wife, upgrade from a 6s Plus, for the price I paid $200ish, it's a great phone. She used the 6s Plus for 4 years, so the XR will probably last just as long, unless Apple compels next year with an appealing phone.

Keep the XR It’s a nice phone. Just bought one new from Apple as a gift. I use the 11 myself but I see hardly any difference

The difference between the XR and 11 is pretty significant for only $100. As for not giving Apple money, they won't notice either way so it's best to do what is convenient for you. Buying a used iPhone on swappa is not "sticking it" to Apple. They wouldn't notice if everyone on this forum as well as all of our family members stopped buying their phones. You can't make any difference, so just do what works for you.

Lol, how long is the contract, like 20 years?
Seriously, sit back and enjoy your XR, it will continue to get support for a LONG time. Don’t stress.

I have a 11 Pro Max after having an XR for a year, and while I enjoy the other cameras, the screen isn't really THAT much better (I had an Android with an OLED before the XR) and performance isn't much different. I have gotten used to the size but honestly think the XR is the best size option.

Not at all. My parents needed new phones (Dad was on an older Samsung device) and my step mother was using quite an old iPhone. Not sure which model. Dad is 72. He didn't need all the bells and whistles as he uses his phone for calls and the odd text message. I got them a great deal on two brand new XR's and they couldn't be happier. Nothing wrong with that phone in the least.

I’m kind of amazed at people that concentrate too much on the support/longevity with Apple. Five years is the average of what iOS supports in terms of the iPhone, and even if Apple stopped supporting the XR tomorrow, it doesn’t mean that your phone won’t be ‘less functional’, you just take the initial loss of not having security/stability updates, but a phone still executes the tasks regardless.

It all depends on what you do with your old device when you upgrade. If you want to resell it or pass it on to somebody, iPhone 11 will score a bit higher than XR. However, if you just return it to your carrier and get a new iPhone instead, the difference between XR and 11 is indeed very marginal.

I own an iPhone XR, and I plan to hold onto it for at least four more years. I can't see Apple discontinuing anytime soon.
