If you're happy, feel free to ignore the opinions questioning the wisdom of your purchase of a 2009 MBA, including mine, which follows.
I think the $999 entry level 11 inch, which has a 1.4Ghz C2D processor, 2GB of RAM, and 64GB of flash storage is a remarkable bargain. Although it does have a smaller screen and less storage capacity than the discontinued 13 inch, which you bought, those weaknesses are more than made up for by the 11 inch MBA's higher screen resolution, remarkable compactness and light weight, and most of all by its flash storage.
Flash storage is a game changer, one of the most significant leaps forward in computer design I have seen in the the past 30 years. Thanks to the solid state technology of flash storage, applications load far faster and run faster than they do with a conventional hard drive of the sort contained in your MBA.
You would be doing yourself a favor by returning the old MBA and buying one of the new 11 inch models for the same price you paid for a discontinued model. You wouldn't regret it.
I considered this as well. However I realized the HDD on a machine like an air (or any new computer in my opinion) must have SSD. The air's with SSD's and without are miles apart, threes no comparing. Also the graphics card... hope your never going to watch hd flash video, or try gaming on it. And the ddr2 667 ram 2gb is going to limit your multitasking. Oh and 1 usb port, and no sd card slot. Hey, you asked us right?
You could have gotten a refurb with full warranty from Mac store, 1.86 GHZ processor and solid state drive for $849, so it seems to me you were hosed. But as PT Barnum said ....
First, you are right that the 2009 MBA had DDR3 RAM. Although the consensus here is that you would have been better advised to get the new 11 inch MBA for the same price you payed for a discontinued 13 inch model, so what? You posted to the MBA Forum inviting our opinions concerning your purchase. Most of us here have either already bought or are on the verge of buying one of the new MBAs. Is it any wonder, then, that most of us think you made a mistake?Lol I really don't get where all these complaints are coming from.. I've been torrenting and watching 720p rips and it plays buttery smooth.. And streaming megavideo in fullscreen.. I don't use SD cards, an extra hole that won't get used for dust to get in.. I really don't understand where all the animosity to this version of the air is coming from
Also, you have your stats about the ram wrong, it is 2GB of 1066MHz DDR3 SDRAM. According to apple.

The dissenting opinions here notwithstanding, if you are happy with your 2009 MBA and with the price you paid for it move on and don't worry about it. You might even want to consider unsubscribing from your own thread.![]()

Your decision making skills will probably improve if you take a time-out from the cannabis.Well, I'm gonna go smoke a bowl now, and try to realize that what computer I own is really not the most important part of my life. Maybe I will donate the money I saved to help cure childhood cancer or something, feed the homeless, or buy some poor kid presents for christmas who wouldn't have otherwise received any. idk.
hahah
And then your update saysWas this a good buy? Looking for fellow fanboy feedback
Do I have to read the thread, or did the fanboys not stroke your ego?Idk just my 2 cents to the other fanboys/girls, I think we forget what really matters sometimes just cuz we wanna have the newest toy SJ announced;p
If it were me, and a couple hundred was the deciding factor, I would have waited until they started selling refurbs of the newest model.
Probably won't be long now...there's many people on MR that have said they've had to return/exchange their new Airs, including me.

Yeah, that was the feeling that I got. I was testing a 11" and 13" side-by-side, and the only way they got the 11" to show even close to as much as the 13" was to have the dock on auto-hide.I was SO close to getting the 11" air since they were so similar in price, but as I was using it in the store, I felt like the screen really crippled it. I couldn't shake the feeling that I was using a netbook,
How long have you been watching your 720p videos? Probably not for very long, as you'll eventually notice with time that your machine ends up getting progressively hotter the longer that you play. I was lucky to get 30-45 minutes of playback on the old MBA before the machine got too hot which caused the video to sputter and become too choppy to continue watching. The new MBA's don't have this problem which alone enough reason to spend the extra money on a new one.
UPDATE: So after the experience of this thread, I leave you all with this closing message: I'm actually quite proud of myself for suppressing my obsessive need to own the latest gadget, and actually buying the one that made logical sense for me. Plus when the new Airs come out you will all be looking at the ones you just bought and not look at it the same. I just braced myself and got it over with now, and realized, hey its still a great computer. Idk just my 2 cents to the other fanboys/girls, I think we forget what really matters sometimes just cuz we wanna have the newest toy SJ announced;p
So I just picked up the mid 2009 13" 1.8Ghz MacBook Air with a 120GB HDD for $949..
This one: http://support.apple.com/kb/SP548
I couldnt justify paying $999 for 11" air with a smaller screen and less hard drive space.. I really like this one and it has a nice backlit keyboard. The original price was $1499, so it was a great deal at Fry's for $949.
Would you have done the same thing? I guess I am wondering if I made the right choice since it's a gen behind, but it still is so sexy and nice to me atleast. Would like some feedback tho
Or if anyone has this same model of the air, how do you like it?

The difference between HDD and Flash is huge.
It's like Hyundai versus Mercedez.

I already bought this laptop, and since I can't return it (or have to pay a restocking fee), I'm going to make an attempt to suppress this nagging pain of making a bad choice. In an attempt to alleviate this pain, I'm gonna twist reality, and inject some false pride in my decision, in order to fool myself into believing I've made the right decision all along. Then I'm gonna call everyone fanboys, and SJ lemmings because my frustration has completely boiled over. In one years time, all of you with the latest macbook air, will be carrying around an old generation macbook air, jelous of the 2011 macbook air owners, just like me jelous of the 2010 macbook air owners.
I had a A and B at that point would never consider a C, if you are happy thats all that counts.I agree that obviously it is slightly slower in some places (I mean what are we talking about here honestly, adding an extra 10 minutes of computing time MAX added up through the day? I noticed absolutely no speed difference doing normal things that I would use it for between this and the SSD air in the store, and this comp is deff way faster than my previous 2008 white macbook) But to say it's junk? Idk. Not cool. It is a nice machine, just because the new air's have some improvements does not make this one junk. Have you used one? I haven't noticed anything wrong with it.. But I've only had it for a day or two..
The difference between the old ones and new ones are like night and day.I wouldn't say the old ones were junk. My Rev B gave me two years of very good service and I sold it for a decent price. Granted, I had the SSD model (which, while slower than the current generation, was still faster than the HD model). It was fine for everyday OS X tasks and Boot Camp usage. Where it struggled were virtualization and having more than 2 or 3 applications open.
I think if the OP had gotten an SSD model at that price it would have been a good deal. Depending on the value of the warranty, even the HD version may be a decent deal.
