OK, so this is bizarre. In the last day I've twice turned off background app refresh for about 75% of the things on my apple watch. Each time within a couple hours everything get toggled back on. Why do it do this?

I could just turn off the master background app refresh toggle, but I don't feel that should be necessary given each app has it's own toggle. Is this a bug?

On the day I got OS3 (Tuesday) I thought the battery was running low a bit quickly, but figured it was because I was fiddling with stuff. Yesterday however I was too busy to mess with it much. The battery plummeted at a downright alarming rate. By noon it was at ~50% where it's normally closer to 80%. (I've worn it every day since launch so I'm pretty familiar with its battery usage.)

I was able to fix it, and today is back to normal. All I did was turn off all background refresh, then rebooted my watch. I suspect there was only one app that was running away, but I couldn't tell which one. Maybe I can turn background refresh back on but frankly I just don't want to deal with it.

Mine phone just did that too. "Oh helz no you didn't just toggle me off!"

Mine wasn't bad. Wore it from 730am to 10pm and was 64%. Normally with a workout would be closer to 30-40 but I hadn't worked out.

I take this back. Yesterday I wore it from 7am - 10pm (with a work out) and it went to 19% which never happened before. It was significantly lower before my workout. I never used Animated faces before, but I did yesterday (flowers).

Maybe that was a factor too?

Got my first Apple Watch (Series 1 - 42mm) on Friday and so far I'm not really impressed with its battery life.
Not sure if it's because I play around with it a little bit more often because it's new, but I was down to 10% ever day at around 7 or 8 pm.
Yesterday I checked the usage at 8 pm (put it on at 7 am, fully charged) when I was down to 5% and it showed:

Usage: 4 hours 35 minutes
Standby: 14 hours 34 minutes

Is this normal, bad or maybe even good battery life?

I only activated iMessage and E-Mail notifications and I use a watch face which shows real time stock price for one stock, the current temperature and my activity rings.

Also, are there any heavy battery drain settings I should turn off? How bad is background refresh in terms of battery life?

You, too? Thought I was getting forgetful.

My watch was fine when I was on the betas and GM paired to my 6S Plus. Since it's been paired with my 7 Plus it's been draining very quickly.

So far so good for me. The first day or so was a little low. Now if anything it's better than ever. Series 0 42mm paired to iPhone 7. Currently at 54% remaining after 2 hours usage and 21 hours of standby. Looks like we are nearing the point it could make it a full 2 days for me without power saving.

Both my Wife's and my Series 0 watches have taken total craps running WatchOS 3.0.0. We think it's a problem with the activity app itself. Workouts hesitate and stall. Distance stops counting, the clock jumps and stalls, calories stop counting for minutes on end. The activity app sits for minutes until it finally updates with the current calorie count.

And Battery life is the pits. 10% per hour even if you're not running a workout. Instead of ending the day with 15-30% with 2 hours of workouts, I have to charge multiple times!

I've seen the workout complication continue to count even after I've ended a workout. I've seen the LEDs on for many minutes at a time at the end. Many times, the heart rate app just plain fails to take a measurement (no green LEDs).

We get text notifications on the watch that say the messages weren't sent hours after they were sent AND received.

Siri has basically told me she's busy and can't take any commands. I've taken screenshots as proof!

WTF apple? I can't go back to WatchOS2, which was running perfectly for us.

I've rebooted both the watch and the phone, Un-paired, and re-paired the watch. No change. I'm desperate for an update. My watch is becoming unusable.

I had some weird battery days, but overall I feel the battery life is about the same and I'm using the watch more with scribble.

Has anyone noticed the Messages app a little laggy on a Series 0?

I'm having the lag issues at times, too, with Messages. However, there doesn't seem to be any consistency as to the circumstances that I can tell.

I seem to get a lot of lag if I click the emoji button, and a little when I first press scribble.

Have not upgraded to Watch OS3 yet. I'm glad I held off. Eventually I will, but not looking forward to a decreased battery life.

and the percentage of Iphone ?

Minimal impact on iPhone 7 battery. Less than 1%. Did not have an issue when I was using a 6S+ and gen 0 Apple Watch either.

workout app or Runkeeper [my favorite] and minimal all else. use music app for about 2 hrs a day

I've solved my battery life issues, thanks!

Battery life has been sporadic for me...one day I'll end up at about 50 percent and the next day I'll have about 30 percent with similar usage.

Same here.
Pretty sure it has something to do with the apps in the dock. I hope they fix this with the next software update...it's just really annoying.
