I put the new OS on my watch and it feels quite good. Very stable and no bugs to report. App launches are indeed very quick.

However, i did found a big downside to the new OS : the music app is now more cumbersome to use.

Before : I'm, for example, at the gym listening to music. When i wanted to change a song, i just use glances (swipe up, pause and forward in a second). It works great : fast, intuitive and very responsive.

Now : I have to press a button, select the music app, tap it to get into the app and only then i can use its functions.

I hope they can fix it, because the usability of the music app has gone down a lot for me. Or maybe i'm just doing it wrong??

Beta testers have reported the same thing. Beta means they haven't fine-tuned everything yet.

Not always a good idea to test out the beta if it's less than optimal in the features you actually use the most so always do your research before deciding to become an armchair beta tester.

Maybe I am missing something, but with OS3, you have a music complication for instant access. Am I reading this wrong?

Yes, but at least one beta tester reported that it's less useful in actual use compared to the glance.

Pretty sure Apple will fix that in a future beta.

Ahhh I was going with the example above. Putting the music complication on the modular face in the middle is by far better than glances.

I know testers don't like the new timer because they have to go all the way to the bottom to set a custom timer. All the way down sounds dramatic when you can have Siri do it way faster. I get it though.

As mentioned, there is now a Music complication. Just tap, instead of swipe up, and you can control your music. And there is now that nice new feature that allows you to quickly change the watch face by swiping left or right on the watch face. You could make one watch face specifically for gym and other sport activity that has every sport related complications you want.

Sounds even more dramatic when you remember that you can use the crown to scroll to bottom in a split second. And the app even remembers your "scroll position", so the app will launch with view scrolled all the way to the bottom, if that's how you left it the last time. (and by launch I mean a "real" launch, not resume)

But while doing a workout you are in the workout app when raising your wrist? I just use the control on the headphones.

Multiple users, multiple ways to use the device. OP said he prefers to swipe up to access the music glance. That implies he prefers to be in watch face while doing a workout.

But if you are in Workout app, the quickest way to access music controls in both wOS2 and 3 is to use the crown double press shortcut. It toggles between two last used apps, for example between Workout and Music. In wOS3 you could also either order your Dock so that the two are side by side or create watch face that has complications for both.

Thanks for clarifying. I didn't knew that I'm able to be on the watch face while doing a workout. Do I need to change some settings or do I just need to switch to a watch face once the workout started? I never tried that though.

You don't need to do anything. It works in the background just like apps like Music, Timer and such do.

I have used the double tap Crown app switcher for 'years' :D and have never been a big fan of Glances. Also to the average person it is confusing having 2 different 'versions' of the same app to choose from.
