watch space black SS is really, really nice

When I first saw the SS Space Black watch and Space Black Link bracelet in the display case at the Apple store, it did give me a brief initial impression of being plastic, which surprised me, but I think this was due to the store lighting and the angle at which the watch was being displayed. Unfortunately they didn't have one for trying on (or maybe they did but it was being tried on by someone else at the store at the time i was there), so I didn't get to actually handle it and try one on for myself. I am planning another trip to the Apple store one day this coming week when things will have calmed down a bit and am hoping that maybe then I can have better luck with the SS Space Black watch and band, as that is the one in which I'm most interested.

I was actually extremely unimpressed by the Space Black version once I saw it in person. It looks like plastic to me in some lighting conditions.

To me it looks like a mix between those cheap watches that are trying to be extra flashy to make up for being cheap and the overly expensive watches that have no clout or credibility/build quality that you see at the club where it is meant specifically just to be that look I'm dark and bad and I got money.

I was struggling between the SS Black and the SS. I thought for sure Apple would get the SS Black right and it would be subtle, beautiful, and elegant, while taking a fresh new taste to stainless steel bands. I was completely torn.

I did a try on yesterday and got to try most bands. SS is now my favorite. I thought Milanese would be up there but its actually not even close. SS and Leather loop are my favorite.

Well I just got back from my try on appointment and yesterday when I stopped by and did a quick 5min try on the guy said they didn't have any space black the lady today checked and they actually had it in the back. She didn't think they had any either but checked and they ended up bringing it up. So it's worth it to see if they can check and see, they don't have them in the table they have one in back that they have to request using their terminals and then someone has to bring up in a case. They just had it in 42 but it's great to see the finish. Much darker than it looks in the case, these pics and the Schiller pics really capture it well. Looks nothing like plastic either it looks great and completely swung me back to going for space black. So glad I saw this thread because after seeing it in the case I was just going to go SS and seeing this in person just reinforced why I wanted space black in the first place.

Had my try on appt today. The SS space black link doesn't look black when the light hits it. It has a little iridescence to it that gives the illusion of the finish being worn off on the edges of each link. Plus, it really shows the fingerprints. I loved this model on the website but it didn't look as good in person.

The regular SS link looks really good. Would definitely be a good buy.

Sorry I didn't grab any pictures I wasn't using them for size since they tend to distort the size and didn't think of it when they pulled out the black I guess I was just excited they had it. If I go back though I'll be sure to grab some. Definitely try and go in and see for yourself though that's by far the best way. The store I went in was definitely not a flagship or anything so I think every store may have one but not all sales associates know about it because they aren't in the try on table. I do feel like the renders on the website give a good representation in the lighting of the Apple store in direct sunlight it will probably look more like the display cases which I don't mind as it will give some variety to the look and I like both. Just thought the display case look was too much like the normal SS to justify losing the band versatility. I wouldn't take people's word for it though go see it in person if you can, it's worth it to be sure.

I haven't seen any of the watches in the flesh yet, but I'd ordered the stainless steel space black on the hope that it was going to be more of a dark grey. One of the Apple promotional images is of a guy wearing it doing some sport and it looks quite grey there, like a darker tone than the regular stainless steel.

Realising I may now prefer the regular stainless steel, I put a second order in for one, but have to wait until June, compared to getting a May date for the space black after having got the order in straight away.

I obviously need to see them in person before I cancel anything, but given that it's confirmed now that its full on deep black, I don't think that's what I want.

Yeah the answer is it really depends on the lighting it actually looks like both. If you are in sunlight it looks like the gunmetal and in general (Apple store) lighting it's the dark like in the op and renders. You may prefer the stainless but take a look for sure. The stainless link does look awesome as well.

Not off the top of my head no as once I started seeing them on in very specific situations on very specific types of people I just lost any interest or love for them.
