Watch TV in your iPad, anytime, anywhere.....

Anyone know what the 5 buttons at the top of the favorites screen are for and how to use them? They are labeled 1 2 3 4 5. I can't get them to do anything.

I had the great idea to use sling box and an iPad to get TV into the kitchen for my wife. Bought all the eqpt and had absolute hell trying to get it running. Several hours on the phone with tech support, $29.99 for the iPad SlingMobile app, $180 for the SlingBox Solo (on sale for Christmas) and once it was up and running the picture was a pixilated horror and the delay from the next room was disconceting ang distracting. It looked beautiful on my PC over WiFi so I was taken aback. Further, the remote control was clunky to access and operate – not slick or intuitive at all.

I very quickly unhooked all that stuff and returned it and requested and received a refund on the exorbitantly priced SlingMobile app.

This was all just before Christmas. Maybe I gave up to quick but I was not happy about the high cost vs the quality I was getting.

Glad others had good experiences but SlingBox is definitely not for me.

Yeah, they are pages of favorites. So, if you have say 100 favorite channels, each page holds like 20, so you just hit the next number to continue to browse favorites.

I'm using a Slingbox Pro HD and also have 10MB cable Internet. Using my home Wifi the picture on my iPad is great, much better than using the Sling app on my iPhone, but not as good as when on my computer. I'm sure the picture quality will not be as good away from home, but it really depends on the Internet speeds.

I'm sorry to here that. it's all about internet speed, internet speed and internet speed. Man, if you had a great internet speed I'm definitely sure that the slingbox will have stood at your home. regards

You guys might want to hold off on a Monsoon purchase. Monsoon was showing a $99 basic "Flow" player which offers basic placeshifting (ie. Slingbox) functionality. At 99 bucks, it becomes more of an impulse purchase very similar to an Apple TV (in terms of cost/value). The mobile apps will go for 9.99 each which is still much better than the 30+ bucks that Sling charges for EACH client.

The Blast model will go for $199 and will offer DVR functionality and will even record in a format for mobile devices.

Check it the CES vid interview:

I haven't heard of Sling offering anything in a similar price range for a basic box so I am considering a Monsoon Flow to replace my aging Slingbox AV.

That volkano blast looks interesting, a good budget solution, I wonder if it will work with UK cable providers.

I know its not the same, but for UK users you can stream freeview channels to you ipad/iphone by just signing up at www.tvcatchup.com ........ not the best of quality however, the iPad streams are still in beta too.

I don't see any reason why any of the placeshifting options (Sling or Monsoon) wouldn't work with UK providers. All it does is redirect the signal from your cable box over the net. I know a couple of UK folks already using Sling for some time now.

Why would u need to spend all that money on a slingbox Or other hardware when with comast you will have those features soon with the xfinnity app?
I have Directv. Also, I have had Sling for years and xfinnity wasn't a choice (not sure it is even a choice where I live now).

got the vulkano, hooked it up and it works great. Put it right back in the box and will send it back. Why you ask???

because you can't independantly control the channels with the cable box. Whatever is being watched on the cable box is the only thing that can be watched on the vulkano player. This is unfortunately a dealbreaker for me. Cool idea though. I wish you could also just hook it up to regular cable without a cable box.

Dish Network has a $99 Sling adapter for their model 722 receivers. It's new so there are some bugs that need to be worked out, but for the most part, it's great. And the service and app are free, so the $99 is all you pay.

It's nice to have access to all the Dish channels I subscribe to anywhere I want to watch them. I've tested it over wifi and on my Sprint 3G connection and it works great.

Can you give more info on this?
I have both the 722 and 722K receivers and am interested in this sling adapter.
What is the quality of the video?
I know you said this is new but do you recommend it?
Are you happy with it or do you wish you have tried something else?

That's the way the Sling works as well. My "workaround" is to put the Sling on the bedroom cable box (which no-one uses during the day anyways). :)

That is the website for more info.

I would highly recommend it actually. Over wifi the HD channels are just that, HD quality. And on the small iPad screen, SD channels look really good. Quality over 3G is lower, but still close to DVD quality. I would say the "ugliest" picture I got over 3G would be considered VHS quality.

You just plug the device into the USB port on the 722 or 722k, plug in a network cable, and the box recognizes it right away. You pull up the app and use your dishnetwork.com account to sign in. You can also watch through the dishnetwork.com website on your PC/Mac.

You can also watch shows recorded on your DVR, set recordings, delete recordings, etc. This part is a little buggy, but I expect that to be improved.

The biggest bug I have run into are when you initially load up the app. Sometimes when you select a show to watch it won't load. So you have to go back to the guide and select "Watch on iPad" again - sometimes a couple times. But once you get past this part, it's pretty flawless. You can then change the channel using a popup number pad, or go back to the guide and see what is on.

There have been people saying it doesn't work nearly as well on the 722k as it does on the 722, so I would recommend hooking it up to that.

Overall, I am extremely satisfied with it. For a flat fee of $99 it's well worth it. My wife is happy with it too as I can now watch TV in bed without waking her up. :)

Watch tv anywhere

If you enjoy UK TV then you can do this easily through TV Catchup, live streaming UK TV.

Follow the link:
http://signup.tvcatchup.com/

I'm not associated with this site in anyway just use it all the while when I'm on the move with my iPad.

Data equates to about 100mb per half hour viewing.

Enjoy

Tried to look this up but couldn't find any info...

For these apps to watch TV on your iPad, what speeds are needed?
I currently have dry loop DSL with d/l of 768Kpbs.
Will that be enough or will I have lag on my video?

But if I am a Dish Network user and I have a iPad, which would be the better choice for me? Vukano box or Slingbox adapter made for Dishonline?

I have comcast which requires no box..coax comes straight out of the wall and into my TV. I remember looking into this before and thinking that it would not work, does that still hold true?
