Yeah, maybe. But the AMD 5850 it originally had got its last driver update 8 years ago. Generic windows drivers usually work fine for any old drive, but if there was some critical bug specific to the original OCZ SSD I had, then I'm SOL. My point is that it's not a direct comparison, since while Windows may install and run on ancient hardware, there are thousands of vendors NOT writing driver updates for said ancient hardware. The old GPU would still work, an old spinny platter drive would still work. It would just be slower.
And it's not like the Windoze 11 hardware 'requirements' are actually requirements, the bypass is easy. https://www.ifixit.com/Guide/How+to+install+Windows+11+on+unsupported+devices/160527
There are even methods to install it if you don't have UEFI.
Or you could always upgrade it to Linux. Not relevant for your i7, but there are still plenty of 32-bit distros that support even older hardware: https://www.makeuseof.com/linux-distros-with-32-bit-support/
Planned obsolescence is disgusting.
Except, the said “years of software support” also slowly destroys said old devices. It’s one thing that Apple provides software support that’s appropriate to the hardware. It’s the other when Apple develops their software so that old device runs slower and slower to the point of no return. Apple is doing the latter.whenever someone accuses Apple of doing planned obsolescence, years of software updates immediately destroy their argument.
Respect. That's gotta be rough, unless it's literally just for phone notifications and a clock. I know a guy who still has a stainless steel S0 and it looks great, but he's a very light tech user.I still run the series 0... just put in new batt3ry for the 3rd time
If watcOS 11 drops support for 2018 Series 4 then it is OK as watchOS 10.x will be supported until 2025.whenever someone accuses Apple of doing planned obsolescence, years of software updates immediately destroy their argument.
security updates. As an owner of the Series 3, what am I missing with the newer models and software updates?
Meanwhile mine is so bad I have to enable airplane mode all day to avoid needing to charge halfway. And that’s after a brand new battery too. Not to mention general slow response and so on.kinda lame when my series 4 works perfectly still
The 3 is basically unusable for anything but the simplest of tasks. Even the many of the stock Apple apps don't behave well and haven't for years. But I won't argue with you about WatchOS. If 10 had an optional "ver 8 mode" I'd probably use it; some of the UI changes feel like change for changes sake. The only reason I went from a 3 to a 7 was the ECG feature. If I hadn't kinda needed that, I wouldn't have done it. WatchOS 8 is actually nicer than 10.
On the contrary it supports said argument, Windows has always surpassed MacOS in terms of years of updates and android has now surpassed iOS for updates.
Given the touted quality and longevity of Apple's hardware, one would expect more years of updates but going back to the planned obsolescence argument, it's clear Apple wants you to upgrade your device every few years - and why wouldn't they, they make their money on hardware, not software.
I have my 4, it’s still decent, and I still get a whole day out of it. I figured at this point I’ll wait until the new one this fall. It's a 6 year-old model... Anyone should have upgraded by now anyway if they have hardware that old. To be honest I didn't think Apple even still supported this dinosaur. For context, this is probably just a year or two away from Apple starting the vintage/obsolete designation process in which their stores and authorized repair shops don't even support most repairs on it anymore.
You aren't the only one.I am so out of the loop with the Apple Watch. I just had to google search my model number to figure out which one I haveapparently it is a Series 6. Going to last me another good 2 years I guess (I just recently got the whole watch replaced with AppleCare+ battery replacement).
I only really use it as a "watch" and as a notification "buzz" so I do not have to check my iPhone all the time.
I mean, iOS 16 runs on an iPhone 8. It just depletes the battery in 3 hours and lags like a budget Samsung phone from 2014 in the processwhenever someone accuses Apple of doing planned obsolescence, years of software updates immediately destroy their argument.
you mean the ~5 years and then Schluss no matter how powerful and capable the hardware is, right? then after another few years a complete cutoff as the critical apps start demanding OS updatewhenever someone accuses Apple of doing planned obsolescence, years of software updates immediately destroy their argument.
Better for you - not the 5 and SE owners whose devices are newere and have double the storage. This will be disappointing if true because the Series 4 SIP is the same (performance wise) as the Series 5 and SE 1st Gen.
Would be better if they supported Series 4 one more year and then dropped all three devices.
Except, the said “years of software support” also slowly destroys said old devices
That report was about low RAM devices...which is a bit of a misnomer because the current iPhones have as much RAM as their entry level MBP.this might be a stretch but:
Wasnt there a report that apple found a way to use storage for some AI processing? The watch 4 only has 16gb storage and since the watch 5 all of them have 32 gb(I always wondered what for, maybe for this?)
no idea what you're saying here.you mean the ~5 years and then Schluss no matter how powerful and capable the hardware is, right?
As long as it continues to work perfectly with watchOS 10 I think it's fine. I have a series 4 and I really don't even feel like watchOS 10 was that big of an upgrade from watchOS 9 to 10 (even probably watchOS 5-10 even).kinda lame when my series 4 works perfectly still
Mine is pretty slow, but the only thing I basically do on it is check the time, notifications, respond to messages, and pay (but opening Wallet is admittedly painfully slow).Faster system all the way around. Updating the Series 3 I owned was painfully slow. And if your not running the cellular versions your stuck at 8GB of storage.
