I can certainly understand people wishing that the Ultra 1 had better support (i.e. gets all the new features for a longer period of time). I have an Ultra 2. The battery isn't living as long as I'd like - I use Low-Power mode more often and it works well.
I look at it differently. $775 (I use the Apple Card to get the 3% off) over the course of 3 years is $21/month. An average (non-budget) gym membership is $39-$100/mo. I've had a gym membership. I didn't use it (many reason). This is cheaper. I use it. A *lot*. On top of that, I use it for more than fitness (messages, flashlight, quick calculator, reminders, shared lists - like grocery lists, weather checks, notifications - especially reminding me to take medications - timers (a lot), etc..
Do I wish it were less expensive? Absolutely. Would I go to a cheaper Apple Watch? Maybe if the battery life doubled or tripled. This is definitely an item for which I'll pay the Apple Tax and not complain.
