you can predict to a t the responses every year along the lines of, Apple is doomed, this wouldn't have happened if Steve jobs was around,

Funnily enough I reckon as a pretty spiritual guy, Jobs would have loved the recent popularisation of mindfulness.

As someone who has been practicing mindfulness via the Headspace app (great app, highly recommend) I was really excited about Breathe. Maintaining mindfulness throughout the day is tricky so this app should be great.

It's an app to remind you to deep breathe not just breath which our buddies do instinctively.
Someone needs to learn how to laugh (and not take everything seriously)...... may be "There's an app for that™" too!!!

If not.,..it might be a good idea for a developer!

$12.95 a month sees bit much?

This seems like the type of thing a company comes up with when they've run out of ideas for anything new, IMHO.

I'm not sure about this implementation as you don't need a gadget to help you meditate but meditation is one if not the best thing any one can do. If this introduces more people to meditation then it's worth it.

Meditation is not a means to an end. It is both the means and the end. – Jiddu Krishnamurti

Oh boy. I love Apple as a tech company. But I am not a big fan of eastern spirituality. This breathe app is a step in the wrong direction imho. Luckily it can be disabled, but I don't like the fact that Apple tries to dump such things on me. Wearing the Apple watch is a personal choice. If the Watch will be associated with this, I'll have to consider wearing my good old Certina instead. It would be much wiser to add this app as an optional downloadable, not a core part of the OS.

I've been using it daily and have been amazed at how effective it is in helping me calm the f*ck down.

The reminders are a bit annoying, standing I can make an excuse for at work, breathing while staring at my watch isn't as easy especially when the phone is ringing/people are talking to me. However now and again I'll start the app up and follow it and I do feel quite at ease once it's done. I thought it was all nonsense, but evidently not.

Remember when you forgot to breathe?

Those apps.... I can imagine the programmers saying: lets create something ultra stupid like... teaching how to walk. And the partner laughing. All of the sudden... Apple promotes it.

I mean, those apps are an insult really. You really need to have half a neuron for those things. Actually, having an Apple Watch makes me doubt of you already. Do not bring it to the job interview.

No, deep breathing, mindfulness and the various kinds of meditation are not gimmicks. Lots of technically minded people would benefit from some of this as part of their daily routing to be frank.
I don't think anyone is calling deep breathing a gimmick, it's Apple's app that's getting mocked here.

While it may come off as a gimmick (the app, not the technique), I think it's safe to say the watch is (to some) somewhat of a gimmick to begin with, so they fit well together.

Deep breathing , mindfulness and various kinds of meditation is not a gimmick. Implementation via a smart watch can be seen as a gimmick .

And I say this being an apple watch user, and not impressed with the HR implementation on my watch , it's not accurate for me, so I also question how well this will work compared to going to say a yoga class etc.

Like I said, I need to try it , not just get suckered in my the markerting

Meditation doesn't have to equate with spirituality. Science guys such as Sam Harris, Steven Pinker, Jonathan Haidt, Michael Shermer all recommend meditation practice. One doesn't even have to assume the lotus position. The Buddhist symbol for the human mind is the chattering monkey, which is just great. And there's fascinating research showing the positive benefits of shutting up the monkey mind.

yeah the fact that they dedicated keynote time to this just shows how out of touch they are with what products people care about. This app will sell exactly zero watches

I heard this app will automatically launch every time you read something about Samsung, Google and also during all Apple Keynotes. Is that right?

I practice meditation quite a bit, usually with guided pactice from MP3s or podcasts. The idea of getting gentle taps to bring you back to the breath seems, to me, like an awesome little innovation. Well done apple, looking forward to trying this! I'd love if sessions could be longer than 5 mins. On the other hand, reminders every 4 hours is interesting as typically i would just do meditation once a day or every other day. Interested to try this more frequent but broken up thru the day approach.

I for one can 100% vouch for breathing as a form a relaxation. I used to take a minute occasionally in my last job and it would work wonders for stress and clearing your head. I have become very bad at taking time out recently to do it but there is absolutely no doubt about it... IT WORKS!

I was really hoping for something more innovative from the new watch0S like new sensors.. Maybe when the watch comes out!? So far I'm not impressed:/
