watchOS 3: Bringing Attention Back to Apple's New 'Breathe' App

I'm looking forward to the Gas Management app.
Best release times, warning not to release around other watch users,
shart danger notifications, sound effects to mask your releases....

Fellow in front of me at Starbucks last week could have used this - he was trying to pay using his watch, wildly waving his arm around in front of the register and getting more angry with every move of his arm. I enjoyed the show, he finally gave up and used his Starbucks card to pay.

If this is Apple's only idea for new fitness features, I will be extremely disappointed.

I'm hoping for more fitness sensors when the next Apple Watch is announced. Its not going to cut it for me if Apple Watch 2 just has GPS and WIFI.

This seems like the type of thing a company comes up with when they've run out of ideas for anything new, IMHO.

Really? Do you have any other examples of where that has been the case? To me, this just seems like a neat idea that touches upon the recent wellness/mindfulness craze and was relatively easy to implement.

Oh boy. I love Apple as a tech company. But I am not a big fan of eastern spirituality. This breathe app is a step in the wrong direction imho. Luckily it can be disabled, but I don't like the fact that Apple tries to dump such things on me. Wearing the Apple watch is a personal choice. If the Watch will be associated with this, I'll have to consider wearing my good old Certina instead. It would be much wiser to add this app as an optional downloadable, not a core part of the OS.

Apple is not dumping Breathe on anyone. Do you feel the same way with other Apple apps you can choose to not use, such as, for example, Reminders, Calculator, Digital Color Meter, Chess, DVD player, etc.?

Seems like one can at least use Breathe to help motivate, develop, and fortify personal free will, by simply choosing to not use the app.

I've given it a try I think, 8 times now? I tend to dismiss the notification as it pops up at bad times, but when I can i do it. It is very nice; the default breathing session is only a minute and definitely has a calming affect and reminds me to actually breath. Sometimes when I'm stressed I can catch myself only taking shallow breaths.

And remember, breathing exercise isn't just yoga or spiritual based; taking a moment to take some deep breaths will help get more oxygen into your system, and help your thinking processes.

Apple recommends customers use this app prior to the point where pricing is announce on any new Apple product going forward as well as immediately afterwards. :D

Seriously though, so glad they included this app in Watch OS3 instead of new analog watch faces. OK, not really.

I think You'll love next years "Jump off a Cliff" app :)

Great! I can use this to calm down when Apple announces new emojis or stickers in the iMessage app instead of focusing on a new Mac Pro (that's not 3 years old).

I believe also that for optimal breathing, one needs to breathe with their diaphragm instead of their chest, which is for me a lot harder than it seems.

The Watch has a heart rate sensor. It would be ideal if the Breathe app would incorporate Heart Rate Variability biofeedback. It's a relatively new and cutting edge technique, used for meditation, as well as athletic performance enhancement.

I've not read everything, where does it say it's all about Eastern spirituality? I used to rein courses to help people with long term health conditions and help them to manage their own pai and take control of their illnesses, disabilities and ultimately their lives. One of the most important and effective things we taught was breathing. It changed lives, just taking time to breathe, relax and calm down for a while. Nothing about spirituality, nothing about the Far East.

Your post sounds a little bit over the top, and I wonder what's at the route of your irrational fear of having this on your wrist....

You can get $1000 Disney watch http://www.disneystore.com/accessories/watches/adults/mn/1000302+1000777/

Edit: Also, a few people in this forum need to take a minute and breathe...

I'm not sure of your point. I can get an alligator skin suit for $10K. Just because something is available for sale or marketed a certain way doesn't mean it should be bought or worn.

Also you are correct. Some people in this forum can't take a joke and need to take a minute and breathe.

A lot of people are not going to like the mandala or anything related to mindfulness. People in Cupertino probably aren't aware of how some Americans feel about that. I've met someone who think the mandala is a form of idolatry sent by the Devil to distract Christians from their religion and someone who believes mindfulness goes against the teaching to not lean on your understanding but onto God's. Just saying it exists. Not judging.

Yeah because there's tons in the Bible about smart watches. If someone really is this obsessed with trying to find the devil everywhere, they frankly need to get a life, and quickly.
