Interestingly Apple's developer site says "watchOS 5 beta supports Apple Watch Series 2 or later", which suggests Series 1 isn't supported in the beta yet. This could just be a typo, but the release notes indicate some things that don't work specifically on Series 1, so maybe they haven't got support enabled for it in beta 1.
Thanks for the reply, I think I'll wait for the second beta, strange though as it has been publicised that watch os5 is S1 and above.

Having said that, my iPhone is on iOS 12, the Walkie Talkie app shows up on my S1 which is still on watch os4 beta5!

Yeah, it could just be a typo, but I can recall a past iOS betas where they didn't have a firmware ready right away for certain devices, so they might just be sorting out a specific compatibility issue and it'll be available in beta 2 or 3. In any case, there are so many known issues listed in the release notes that I think it'd be a safer idea to wait for a few more betas anyway.

The minor update didn't go well.. and was probably unnecessary.

S2

The update loaded bit after reboot the phone was stuck in the screen with lots of ticks all around. The only option was to reset

Did this and restored from backup and it's now as it was before and working

Can anyone share the release notes on this latest release (build 16R5283r)? Thanks.

The release notes haven't changed since the first build. If you want them you can find them if you Google: watchOS 5 beta release notes pdf

Thanks for the reply. So in other words, sadly the GPS logging problem during outdoor running still exist in this build I assume.

Sadly yes - at least for me. Also, and this is nothing against your comment, but we are 3 months away from OS5 being released I assume. If so, expecting our watches to work well and fully functional is a lot to expect. If this is our only watch, we get what we get. :)

Luckily I have two and only use beta on one. And more lucky, I’ve never had a single upgrade problem. :)

Don’t worry, none taken.

I do understand this is in beta and there will have some imperfections but just never expect that it will be as trivial as GPS logging during outdoor run as it is a sports watch last time I checked. Besides, when I was in the last beta (4.3.5) none of this occurred so it does caught me in suprised.

Same here, so my remedy now would be using my old watch (series 2 with watchOS 4.3.5) as my running watch and for everything else switch to my series 3 LTE watch with watchOS 5.

Where do you get this idea? Curious because no one I know sleeps with a watch on.

Well, I sleep with my watch on because now with sleep++ it automatically starts and stop sleep tracking. Like dgreening said just need to charge it during shower and 30 mins here and there during the day and the watch will last all day with no problem. (Including an hour run per day)

Mine did the same.... Got to the end of the update and just hung on the completed circular progress screen. I crapped my pants and tried a reset, which thank god worked.

Worst for me! My watch was stuck in the boot, with Apple logo for an hour. I was about to crap my pants too... hard reset didn’t work... had to unpair and repair as new and setup watch as new...

All my health data wasn’t lost. Thank god.

I can imagine there was some seriously soiled underwear about last night!

so it is okay to get beta 1 right now or wait till 2nd one to release? i am trying to control my impulse to update...

Remember, these betas are normally intended for developers with a separate testing device. The first few betas especially will be very rough, and there's currently a lot of functions that are broken, or that don't work reliably, or that are causing bad battery life. Last year even very late in the beta cycle there were still battery drain issues and other problems. Unless you're willing to put up with that kind of bugginess, don't do it.

Personally I'm just not willing to put up with having a buggy watch for a couple of months. My opinion: do yourself a huge favour and wait.

I don’t find a Podcast app on my Apple Watch series 1 using watchOS 5 beta 1

Also, everything on the bottom 3/4 of the Siri watch face is blank.
Edit: Siri watch face started working after I hard reset the Apple Watch again.

How is everyone else’s Apple Watch series 1 doing?

I've tried it a few times, but 1) the screen gets all smudgy and 2) I didn't see the point in altering my lifestyle for the sake of a gadget. I've never slept with a watch on before - don't see the point in starting now. And apparently the engineers at Apple agree, about the watch - hence, NIGHTSTAND mode. :D

Sleeptracking. With theater mode activated.

Yes, I've used both. But again, Apple gave us Nightstand Mode for a reason. I'd bet that the majority of AW owners take them off at night, just as you would with a "traditional" watch. Maybe a poll would be enlightening. :)

I think it’s fair to say the majority put Apple Watch to charge at night. I’m sleeping with my watch though. :D

I have always slept with a watch on. The Apple Watch is no different except now it gives me sleep data. As I have had a watch on my arm for over 45 years, only taking it off to shower. It feels completely strange not having a watch on.

I face the issue that when I do a workout started on the Apple Watch with a connected external heartrate monitor (polar h10) the Apple Watch records heartrate from both, the external monitor (correct) as well as the apple watch (which is MUCH too low); so I do get very inaccurate results with a non-smooth heartrate line...

can anyone confirm? Is this a know issue?

I have a H7 and the same thing happens to me. But, I get very spotty watch heart sensor "readings" as well, especially during workout. Yesterday I was swimming and the reading here very random :/ And when in a gym (strength training) or running outside with the H7 sensor, sometimes I dont get ANY readings for minutes, then I have some readings from the watch (spotty)...But its a beta, right? We need to test this, report proper radars and hope for a fix in september :)
