Sadly, not over the air. Baked in to iOS 11.4 and watchOS 4.3.1 based on date. :(

Yes, hopefully this is something we can see in the future. WatchOS 5 I think is showing signs of what is yet to come, but it seems Apple is being more vigilant with certain features.

Wear a proper watch then. ;)

Seriously though I don't understand why Apple do not allow custom face designs like Facer on Android and Tizen.
"You're holding it wrong!" lol

Seriously, this really isn't too much to ask for. Jony Ive (?) brags about how PRECISE the Apple Watch is, as a time-keeping device, but then all we actually get to see (in almost all of the digital watch faces) is an approximation of the time (well said, Loge!) ... This IS a proper watch, it's incredibly precise, and all we're asking for is a BASIC feature, one that many/most digital watches have.

I've checked several times today and it's definitely not showing in any of the Face Gallery sections which is where I'm assuming it would appear. Not a deal-breaker but it would be good to see it in action.

I just got a tip that worked on another thread -
press on the watch face to change, scroll to the end for the '+" sign, press that and scroll down. It's in there for me even though it still isn't in the gallery on my phone.

I had a thought that could explain why we didn't see anything in terms of new faces yesterday. All the rumors thus far point to a slight design change for the series 4, with the most credible rumors suggesting a larger display in the sense that it would be closer to edge-to-edge. If that's the main new feature of this year's watch, perhaps Apple didn't want to spill the beans by having all the new plist values in the developer builds. We've all seen how the development community pours through the builds once they are release, looking for even the slightest hint of what's to come

I don't know, I'm probably just grasping at straws at this point. Really I just want MORE faces with more variety. I would love some analog faces that have different hands for example. Think about it, of all the faces we have, there are only two styles of hands. 1: the ones with the rounded ends. 2: the Mickey Mouse hands. I want to do more than just pick the color of the watch hands. I want to mix-and-match hand styles as well.

Note: For this discussion I'm excluding any specialty faces like the Hermes ones.

Even so, there are usually very hardly any hardware leaks with the Apple Watch, because the have so few hardware suppliers and likely less hands-on compared to the iPhone and all of its components. It’s almost guaranteed we will see a Series 4 in September, and I think there will be some surprises, hopefully an additional casing option as well.

However, right before the September keynote last year, the Apple Watch leaked with a picture of the red digital crown.

Surprised no one has mentioned that the Pride watch face is available from the Watch Face Gallery, which is Over the Air. It could be an indication of how third Party watch faces are implemented in the future.

Don’t really consider it a new watch face - it’s basically a clone of the photo watch face and with a Live Photo of the rainbow. Actually such a quick clone that they didn’t adjust the clock font or colour to make it better readable than a light picture makes it

Agreed. I will remai hopeful that we get some new Watch faces but I won’t hold my breath. It’s Apple that seems to decide what we “want” for faces.

I’ve never been a fan of the Siri face either. Third party apps will help, but no matter what I try, it never looks good or works the way I want. The only info that stays is photos and news. Weather moves to the next day instead of current. Just dumb. In my opinion only. Some may like it, but it’s worthless - like the pride just being a photo that moves when touched. Maybe this is the only area where Samsung is better than Apple for Watch faces.

I thought the color band animation in this new watch face was randomized, not fixed like a live photo? Is that not the case?

I understand what you’re saying, but it is technically a “New” watch face implementation classified as such, which Apple may disagree with you. But others see it as a variant of the Photo watch face. Either way, its not what others were expecting, Including myself. I still bigger changes are coming to watch faces. Its just Apple has a slower way(And different) of doing things.

It's fixed - needs to stay aligned to the Pride watch band

Agreed - I have never used the Siri Watch Face other than a few hours the first weeks - Didn't like the look at all - and what's the point of an on-screen Siri button, when you could just long-press the digital crown?

....Because it’s a touch screen device that offers an alternative other than using a hard button. Not sure what else you’re expecting Being its primary form is touching the display to navigate.

Sorry mate, that's a weird excuse for using crucial screen real estate.. The screen is really small, so if you take up space on it, it better be good.. I know you can change it to other functions (I did) but for such a small device, it doesn't make sense to use up screen space when you can now just talk to the watch or hard press the crown

No need to apologize for something you don’t find useful, even though the main purpose is to utilize a _Touch_ screen as the core function. Also, why does somebody have to use the digital crown if they don’t want to? Again, its an alternative or dual functionality. I gather what your complaint is, even though its rather frivolous in my opinion.

Yeah I know - I can just select another watch face if I don't like it... Guess my frustration is just that they focused on the (IMO) not optimal Siri watch face, rather than giving us a selection of new stylish ones. Had hoped for 5 new good ones at least, but guess I will have to make due with existing ones

Agree with you completely.

I suspect that we’ll see a lot of new faces and they’ll be optimised (and maybe exclusive to), the new Watch.

I’m expecting Apple to up the dpi (as well as an edge to edge display, as you say) thus be able to create higher res watch faces.

And I suspect that it’ll produce a fair few less ‘techy’ watch faces for those that don’t like the idea of a mini computer on their wrist (or at least don’t want it to look like one).

So I suspect that we’ll see faces more reminiscent of classic dress watches by Cartier (maybe by Hermés?) ie something like the Cartier Tank and the Jaeger-LeCoultre Reverso, the Grand Seiko ‘snowflake’ etc.

Following from this, I suspect that we’ll see looks inspired by the classic tool watches from Omega, Rolex etc. - the Speedmaster, Planet Ocean, Submariner etc.

Oh and of course some 70s inspired watch designs both dress & tool watch inspired I.e. something like the classic Audemars Piguet Royal Oak (Ive does seem to have a soft spot for 70s design).

All I've ever wanted in life since 1995 is the watch from Goldeneye. It was the first bond movie I saw as a kid. If a third party developer replicated the UI on an Apple Watch then I would pay a lot for that. Even better if Apple released a round Watch and it had that face. I mean, it's not something I would wear all the time, but when I'm feeling a bit cheeky on the weekend then I'd be all about that.
