Farewell to news, podcasts, home, remote, and radio!

Can I remove some apps from my Apple Watch without removing them from my iPhone? I love Find My Friends on my iPhone... it's worthless on my Apple Watch.

Really? I've found it easier just to pull it up on my watch. I used it last night to make sure someone was home before I called them. I'm with you 100% on news. I can't imagine using it for browsing the news.

I breath all the time. Even when I am sleeping. Without the app though.

For now.....

I think we can all agree that in the future, Apple will decide if, and when, we are all allowed to breathe 'Apple Air' - and that decision will be communicated by the Apple devices we wear on our body.

I'm sure they will tie that into a monthly subscription package too somehow...

It took Apple long enough to offer this choice. Not having the ability to delete unwanted Watch apps is one of the several reasons I got rid of my Apple Watch 3.

Apple Watch users will be able to delete stock apps from the Apple Watch starting in watchOS 6, according to TechCrunch.

This will make it possible to delete many of Apple's built-in apps on the Apple Watch, including Alarm, Timer, Stopwatch, Remote, Camera Remote, Radio, Walkie-Talkie, ECG, Breathe, Noise, Cycle Tracking, and others, the report indicates. A few core apps like Heart Rate and Messages will not be deletable.

Some of Apple's apps can already be removed from the Apple Watch, like Calendar, Stocks, and Weather, as deleting a built-in app on an iPhone also removes the app from a paired Apple Watch. However, this method does not work for watchOS apps that lack an iOS counterpart like Timer and Radio.

watchOS 6 will allow almost any built-in app to be deleted directly on the Apple Watch. As already possible with third-party apps, users will be able to delete built-in apps by pressing and holding to enter so-called "wiggle mode" and then tapping the "X" button that appears above an app icon.

This functionality has yet to be enabled as of the second developer beta of watchOS 6, but it's still very early. The report indicates it will be ready in time for the public release of the software update in September.

[doublepost=1560969587][/doublepost]Thanks. The first app I will remove is that dumb a$$ breathe app.

Maybe a couple dozen years later, Apple and other companies will introduce “living tax” charged to every single living human being in the world. Without paying taxes, you cannot live. Oh wait... /s

This really took my Breathe away :p
PRO TIP: Don’t delete Breathe app if you want to breathe while using Apple Watch. :D:p
I'm more interested in being able to remove Apps I never use so my App screen is less cluttered.
That’s also Valid. With that being said, I find myself checking watchOS home screen far less often than iPhone home screen.

Your wife will love you more if you keep this app. ;)

Are you sure, I deleted whole bunch of apps, when I search I can't find them.
There are so many ways apple can let user feel “the app is deleted”, including this “remove it from home screen but file still remain on the device” method.

No reason the original watch lost support so quickly. Apple should rethink that.
Look no further than first generation iPhone and iPad. First generation iPhone last three iOS versions, while first iPad lasts only two iOS versions. No wonder why first gen Apple Watch only lasts 4 watchOS versions.

I have a Nike Watch (I like the band but not Nike) and I don't have the Nike complication installed. In my IOS Watch app it shows with the "Install" button.
Do you mean there's an "Install" button for the NRC app? Or for the complication itself?

What version of iOS and WatchOS are you using? I'm on iOS 12.0.1 and WatchOS 5.1.3, and there's no option for uninstalling the Nike complication. (I do see there are updates for both versions, so maybe I need to do that.)

Goodbye AudioBooks, News, Breathe, Home, Stocks, WalkieTalkie, Cycle Tracker(I’m a dude), Radio, Music, Photos, Find Friend, and I’m sure something else.

Besides all the valid ones you guys have mentioned, I'd really like to delete Activity from the iPhone as well as the Watch.

this is great. But why did it take so long? I tried to delete apps as soon as I turned my first watch on...

Would much rather be able to turn off Siri on the watch without disabling it on the phone. Too many inadvertent triggers of it when working out or the watch activating when I intend it for the phone.
Yes please! Its an invasion of privacy to have “hey siri” active on the watch by fiat even if you have that part of siri turned off elsewhere.

The watch needs it much more than the phone does.. Arguably, the smaller the screen raises the priority of needing to.

Invasion? Aliens havan't landed just yet.. People may not want Siri to automatically be disabled globally though.

Just keeps getting better. Another small step toward making the Apple Watch a completely stand alone device.
I expect Apple's AR Glasses (2020?) to follow a similar product development trajectory. The first generation will likely require it to be used in conjunction with an iPhone but after a couple of generations, you will be able to run it with an Apple Watch or as a completely stand alone device.

You make it sound like this is hard. It’s not. It’s about Apple loosening its grip and giving the user control.

I agree they could have easily let people delete Apple apps from the beginning. However, I think there was a learning / evolution curve to how the Apple Watch works. Apple initially did a lot of processing on the iPhone and used the watch more as a remote screen / microphone / speaker. I can understand Apple not wanting to support Android phones or make the Apple Watch a stand alone device during that phase. However, as the watch has evolved, Apple is doing more on the watch rather than on the phone, presumably so they can decouple the Apple Watch from an iPhone completely in the near future.
