I understand how heart wrenching it is to have a liquid spill destroy your laptop. I had the same problem and it seemed hopeless at first and I was resigned to having to save up for a new laptop but I did found a highly awesome company the specializes in liquid spill repair and logic board disasters check them out.

and good luck.

Wow.. If I had a Macbook Pro I use for my job with $4000+ worth of software I can't redownload, AND in the middle of a financial struggle, I would be guarding that Macbook with my life...

And if you really do have a legit job in video editing, wouldn't all that software be provided by your employer?

But anyways, I don't think Apple is going to replace your logicboard for free, since the logicboard is basically all of the core(ie. expensive) internal components of the Macbook soldered together :/

Your best bet would be to look for a similar Macbook that's functional, but with like a broken screen or something. Then you can use that logicboard on your Mac.
Or you could try finding a cheap place to buy a logicboard by itself.

Or if your screen is still functional, you could try selling your MBP and describe as "Fried Logicboard, but LCD still intact". There must be someone out there with a cracked MBP screen who doesn't want to pay apple $600 to replace it, and would rather just buy your fried MBP and salvage the screen. You could then put the money towards a new mac.

She is incredibly sorry, and the problem is that we are both in the midst of financial struggles. If only Apple products weren't so expensive. If it were less than $1000 she would pay it, but $1200+ is a bit ridiculous if you ask me. If she helps, then we may be able to afford it, but half of it is about all she can afford.

Alright this makes more sense, I was under the impression that she had money as she was covering your rent. Its a tough spot to be in when you both can't afford the repair. Hopefully a genius will help you out. Apple is so amazing when it comes to customer service, you just have to get the right people who are feeling especially nice!

First off, I was. I set it down for a moment next to the bed and got up. I warned her that there was a drink near it and when I did, she turned, and it happened.

Second, no employer is responsible for editing tools. What would be the point of hiring someone for a job if they don't have any equipment to work on.

Third, I spoke with an incredibly nice woman on the phone with Apple who said to talk to the geniuses in the store because they are known to make exceptions, especially around the beginning of school, on issues like this.

And worst case scenario, I buy a logic board for around $500 and have someone put it in for me.

So here's the news. Got a call from the apple repair center the other day saying the damage was not covered so I asked them to send my computer back. It got back today and the apple store called to tell me they are making an exception this one time and sending it back for a FREE REPAIR!

Thank you so much Apple Store geniuses!!!

Glad it worked out; you're VERY lucky~ but I have to add - if you were the one who put the drink down before warning your girlfriend, I don't see how it's her fault if she didn't know it was there. YOU're the one who set the drink near it! :p
