If you have monitors set up in the office and at home this could make for a great way to go back and forth and only need one $10K computer rather than 2...

Then again... Couldn't you just leave the $10K computer at one or the other, and just get a cheap computer to VPN* into it?

*I think I got my acronyms mixed up, but nothing better is coming to mind right now...

Wow, the top velcro portion of that case is hideous. They did it for cost, but if they would have spent a bit more, then could have had a rounded, zippered top that would make the unit completely rounded. Looks like a ziplock sandwich bag top.

Also, it looks like the keyboard can just slide out and fall on the ground if you tilt this the wrong way. Is there a way to keep the keyboard "locked" in that pouch?

Ballistic? Some explain how that is meaningful and not just a worthless buzz word.

They should only use ballistic if I can shoot my case and my Mac Pro will be just fine.

You've clearly never used a Waterfield product.

So velcro costs more than $0.60... from China?

Flight Case

If I needed something to store an expensive mac pro, I'd be making a flight case myself. In wood, with alu profiles, good locking mechanism, lots of foam and make sure that it can take a beating.

Backpacks like that have no support whatsoever and this bag definitely does not look rain proof with the velcro wrap on top.

Where does the 29" monitor fit?

Er... in a monitor carrying case, silly.

...or, since (non-4k) displays cost a lot less than a Mac Pro and don't have your personal data and all your software installed on them, simply arrange to have a suitable display in every location where you're going to use the Mac Pro.

This is for Desktop A <---> Car trunk <---> Desktop B, not a Macbook Air replacement. Its a lot better than lugging one of those bloody cheese graters out to the car.

Its a sensible alternative to having your shiny nMP bouncing around in the back of your car and getting damaged (or, in the case of an old-style Mac Pro, damaging your car!)

Two things that strike me from the ad;

The shoulder strap connections would want to be good quality and strong. Needless to say what would happen if one of them breaks.

A minimum 5-6 kg is a lot to carry for extended periods on one shoulder. I'm guessing it's only designed for short trips to and from a car for instance. Any longer would get very uncomfortable without a 2-strap backpack design.

Otherwise it looks good.

This made me laugh. The first time I carried a PowerMac G5, I had to open a door at the bottom of my stairs. Since I was used to my Quicksilver G4, I figured it wouldn’t be a big deal to hold it with one hand for a few seconds.

Needless to say, I thought it was very forward-thinking of Apple to not install razor blades in the case on this new model. Very considerate.

And you’re very right. Apple’s made a pro computer that actually CAN be moved from place to place. It seems logical that someone would make a case to keep that pretty finish from getting scratched in the back seat of a car.

The kind of "thing" you buy and use it once and that's it. The rest is collecting dust in your closet or... as a nice beach bag.

I don't think so. It's perfect for people who work maybe three days in the city, then commute to the country for two more workdays and the weekend. I used my Macintosh 512k case like that all the time in the 80s.

I use mine at my home studio and at work as a contractor (one location with monitoring). This looks very good to me. And if it is always with me at both places, opportunities for theft go way down. The same Aperture library is always with me (backed up of course), the same software configuration. Even room for a moderate FCPX project on my 1TB SSD. Not to mention the speed of the machine. I like the idea.

Has anyone ever transported a Mac Pro through airport security? I wonder if this weird black cylinder that doesn't look like a 'computer' might raise some eybrows… I want to transport a Mac Pro during an international flight but I am unsure how smooth it would go…

I'm with you, very curious as well.
