WaterField Designs today introduced the Shield Case, a small, protective case that's designed for Apple's latest Mac mini. The shield case has a rugged ballistic nylon or waxed canvas exterior, along with a soft, padded fleece interior that keeps the Mac mini safe during transport.

The M4 Mac mini is Apple's smallest desktop machine to date, measuring in at just five inches by five inches. It's small enough that it can be easily taken from one desktop setup to another, hence the reason behind a case for a desktop Mac.

There is a plush interior pocket for the Mac mini power cord, along with a rear mesh pocket and a padded, zippered front pocket for SD cards, cords, and an AirTag for tracking purposes.

A nylon loop at the top allows the Shield Case to be carried or attached to another bag with a carabiner, and there are waterproof YKK zippers that can be locked with a padlock. A zipper guard ensures the zipper does not damage the Mac mini.

The Shield Case can be purchased from the WaterField Designs website for $99, and it will ship out to customers this month.

ok for $99 this is a waste of money, but I did once a week take my mac mini in to the office as my work provided laptop was too slow. But I just kept it in my backpac

Nice product, I don't find the price bad at all, I just wonder how many people are toting their mini around like that? I would think this is a really small customer base.

After more than 15 years traveling with different iterations of the MacBook Air, I found myself having my latest MBA in clamshell mode hooked to a monitor, keyboard and mouse at my studio 90-95% of the time.

Instead of going for a very expensive MBP that would be almost always working as a desktop, I decided to revert roles and bought a maxed out M4 Pro Mac Mini, which is now small enough to come along the 5-10% of the time I'm traveling (I also got a usb-c portable monitor to come with it). So far the setup is working great when on the move.

I just don't see myself spending $100 for a bag for it, I do like WaterField bags, etc. but there are $15-$20 alternatives on Amazon already for the new Mac Mini.

To each their own.

On the use case, if one works mostly between home and an office then I could certainly see forgoing a more expensive laptop in favor of hauling a mini around. You could certainly buy a mini and 2 decent monitors for less than an MBP, an MBA would be tough but the point is taken.

On the cost, yup, there are certainly less expensive options out there... there always are. These comments are similar to "I do like BMWs but there are plenty of Honda's available". The AliExpress comments are even funnier, that is the only marketplace I trust less than Amazon, it is full of cheap China knockoff crap. Sometimes you just want a quality piece. If you spend $15 bucks on one and a strap breaks, dumping your maxed out mini on the ground you won't be happy.

If people think $99 is too high they obviously don't like nice, real leather. If it were made by Hermes and $499 I would be on y'alls side. I like leather, but not that much!

That's why the price is high, not many people will buy it.
