LOL I've rolled so long without worrying about it that I forget about the warranty.

I have much the same problem. Only time I've ever had hardware problems was a MBA last year - the trackpad didn't work well right out of the box. Took it to apple store, they replaced the bottom, still didn't work, so I decided to send it back and bought a MBP.

Other than that I've never needed to use warranty and never buy AppleCare

It isn't a washroom instrument. It is a MBP you're discussing right? Look up my posts about making the right space to use these instruments properly to assure long life.

If you really want to create a rain jacket for the mbp go set up a online peer funding proposal.

Basically common sense, make a room for the proper use of any MBP, a good solid flat surface, great ventilation, no food or water in that room, no kids or animals, just do your work, or if it is an entertainment system too, keep 4 feet away from the computer if there is pop and popcorn, kids and animals.

Simple. Right? Then you don't have to water proof and other proof this or that, proof doesn't always have to be yet another product! It can be a mindset.

Any protection against dust?
Do you recommend some air purifier brands?
Do you use a specific anti-humidity paint for the room?
Some flypapers around the notebook?
Do you use gloves or do you wear any spatial suit before entering the room?

Yes.... Anything less would be supremely inferior ah ha..

Well, mines actually an air tight hermetically sealed room.

And the laptop is in a humidity and temperature controlled room inside that room.

And I only use it in the dark because bright lights may hurt it (and it may be frightened of bright lights. Don't want to scare my poor lappy)
:D ;)

Edit: Also I only wear a hazmat suit, inside a hermetically sealed suit. Plus I use one of those chemical glove boxes so my gloves don't ever actually touch the laptop. And I UV sanitize everything (thrice!) before it goes in the room. Anyways, g2g because my oxygen supply is running out!

Better make sure that sealed room is inside a building like this too.

No need to bother with worrying about liquid spills if you just treat those gorgeous beauties properly when they're on the proper pedestal.

Doing anything less is just silly.

When it comes time to make a claim.

I have a rider on my renter's insurance for my computers that protects against spilling, dropping, dog eating, etc damage. It's meant to protect against accidents. About $100 a year protects about $5000-$6000 of equipment. I don't know about your insurance company, but mine isn't shady.

So you've had success with claims and collected right from a spillage? Insurance brokers are notorious for putting up an expensive and timely fight when you make a claim and they hardly ever pay out. The plan they try and sell - sure, reads nice and sounds really great like they are protecting you and your assets, but just a 100 a year, I've rarely read or heard of any first hand positive experiences, those who can afford to pay for replacing their own damaged goods are far more likely to get ahead of the problem sooner than those who have insurance.

Who has had personal experience with smooth experience here with insurance replacing your computers because of accidental spillage?

Home insurance will cover if your house is burned down or washed away. But you gotta put up a really good fight to get paid. No?

I'm Canadian - I only have cash savings and investments to buffer in case of emergencies. Plus I have been personally warned by friends who have worked in all levels of insurance of all sorts asking me to just be really careful, mindful and avoid insurance as best I can, so far so good, knock on wood ^_^

I've worked in insurance and have a law degree. My policy is air tight. It's a $250 deductible and mine is only for $4000 of coverage. I only have it because my daughter is a Tasmanian devil and I don't want to possibly have to replace my stuff because I've left her unattended. She has an unbelievable knack for trying to break things!

I love kids and I understand your situation I don't want to go there. That is adorable how you describe her as the Tasmanian devil, because so am I - I'm surprised I haven't destroyed more of my valuable equipment!
