So i was wondering the difference between the 2, so i picked up both since they were the same price. Thought I'd figure out why the heck there are 2 types. I know that the normal one works as well, just need to format it and the one for mac works right out of the box

The one on the right is the one For Mac and its actually slimmer and lighter, kinda neat.

There are no differences externally. Formating-wise, the Mac drive is already pre-formatted to allow for usage on the Mac. Windows-based drive has bunch of BS and NTFS formating.

Slim or not slimmer matters not. Different production lines or simply thickness difference to differentiate in terms of other possible things. I doubt WD made it slimmer to play nicely with the Apple niche.
