"1. Agnelli and the Watch on Top of the Cuff
Agnelli is extremely well known for having worn his wrist watch, usually a Fratello on top of his shirt cuff. He himself once claimed he did it simply because he didn’t have the time to pull back his shirt sleeve cuff every time he wanted to look at his watch. If that was true, he did it just for a practical reason, but looking at his style as a whole, I find his friend’s Taki Theodoracopulos’ story more convincing. According to him, Agnelli had always worn his watch underneath his Brooks Brothers OCBD shirt cuff, just like anybody else. However, his evening shirts were made by Battistoni in Rome, and since it was bespoke, the cuffs were much tighter than the off the rack Brooks Brothers cuffs. Agnelli wanted to wear his watch, and so he just wore it on the outside of the cuff. Fred Hughes, the business manager of Andy Warhol, was one of the first to copy it and soon thereafter, many others did it. Whenever, I see somebody wearing a watch on top of the cuff, I never think “what great personal style” but rather “he is so insecure and without personal style that he has to copy Agnelli”. Whenever you wear a watch on top of your shirt, people will think of Agnelli, and not you – if that’s how you want to be perceived, go for it, otherwise just don’t do it."

Hi kdarling, in another post you explained how the LED sensors use light off the skin to measure HR. The good news is that it sounds like I wouldn't have to wear it tight for the HR monitor to work. If I wore it over the shirt cuff would the LED sensors get an accurate HR reading? Probably not? Definitely not? But, on the other hand, LED sensors would know I am wearing the watch (thus Apple Pay would work) even though AW is being worn over the shirt cuff.

Apple says it's 10.5mm thick, but isn't the sensor pod another 2mm ?

I've taken a couple of side views, and resized them to be 42mm high, and it's always like 12.5mm thick if you include the sensors.

Can anyone else with more imaging skill check? Thanks!

Yes, actually over the shirt cuff, so now need to pull back sleeve to view watch. I've seen men do this, but very few. It doesn't look particularly good, but like you said, practical. Perhaps, just perhaps, the design of AW will make wearing over the cuff work.

I don't get why anyone would wear a watch and not want it to always be outside of the cuff anyway. Ive always hated having to lift my arm and then pull my sleeve back just to see the time. i feel like the cuff should just stop at the top of the watch.

I just wrote some more details in that thread.

The upshot is that, yes, you do have to wear it snug for the HR sensor to work.

Definitely not. The LEDs get only a tiny signal back when flush against the skin. They'd get nothing with a cuff (or distance) in between.

But, on the other hand, LED sensors would know I am wearing the watch (thus Apple Pay would work) even though AW is being worn over the shirt cuff.

That is my assumption, but others disagree. We'll find out soon enough!

It's generally considered dweeb-ish to wear your watch over your shirt sleeve cuff. Acknowledged. But taking into account the design (the look) of AW could it work? Would you consider it?

AW is 10.5mm thick and I read that one critique from a blog writer who actually wore AW was that it was bulky under his sleeve cuff making it difficult to have his sleeve cuff over AW or to look and use AW. The obvious solution is to wear it on the outside, over the shirt sleeve cuff.

Pretty sure the OP was talking about tucking the edge of the cuff underneath the watch.

oh....well a simple tuck, thats normal. I can never get it to stay though when I do that. If you wearing a fitted dress shirt, the cuff will automatically slide right under the watch anyway.
