I don't know what's going on anymore with the weather widget. I tried restarting, then re-doing all the steps from before, t's still not working. Actually it's stuck showing Cupertino weather all the time now, even though my city is selected in the city selection window (when you click the "i" at bottom right corner). Very odd.

Hi, Again ATC.
That sounds like your dashboard for some reason is not working properly.
please do the following and see if it helps.

First try this.

Remove the weather widget from the Dashboard and add it back again.
enter your city information and see if it works.

If it does not work then try this.

Kill the dashboard client by going to the Activity Monitor. The fastest way to get there is by typing "Activity Monitor" in Spotlight search. Then Select the CPU tab and in the search bar at the top right of that window type "Dashboard" double click on the process and click quit, then force quit.
Retry adding your city information on the weather widget.

Good Luck!

Hey thanks for all your help but I just tried all that, still no luck. The weather widget is now showing blank weather info and not even showing a name (see pic):

FWIW, apart from the weather widget, all other widgets are working fine (including a 3rd party weather widget that I have).

Sorry to hear that, ATC.

I haven't got that problem myself, please try this:

Go to your dashboard and add another weather widget.
Does is take the default cupertino location? if so try changing the location to your city

Good luck!

Still no luck. Interestingly, I can change Cupertino to other US cities and it works fine, just not Canadian cities. I suspect the issue is related to The Weather Channel's weather data for Canadian locations, they're either not being received or sent on their end.

This is the first OSX version where I've had this issue with the default weather widget. At least I have a good 3rd party one that's working great.

Cheers.

Exactly the same happens to my WW on regular basis. Tried all tricks, nothing works. The core of the problem is that the WW fails to communicate with the relevant server according to the information displayed in Console.

So weird; the weather widget started working again for Canadian cities two days ago on its own.

Edit (April 12): And it's down again, it's no longer updating current temperatures. I think I'll now just give up on this widget and use my trusty 3rd party one that works fine.

My widget isn't updating the temps anymore either. I'm pretty sure Yahoo has just recently changed the url where they provide the weather information (see below) and this widget isn't written well enough to tell you if it didn't fetch good data.

See, for example this link as evidence: http://www.macosxtips.co.uk/geeklets/weather/current-location-weather-yahoo-1/

It seems to me that Apple thinks of widgets as serious third class citizens and will be surprised if they update this in a timely fashion, or ever. In the mean time, here is a working and similar one on this page: http://ch4productions.com/dashboard/

@e93to , you sure it's giving you accurate numbers? If so, what location are you using, so I can check (for example, if you're looking at Toronto, my widget shows a high on Sunday of 66, but weather.com shows only 55 and Yahoo 51). At a glance it looks like mine is working (e.g. days of the week change), but the current temperature isn't updating and the forecast numbers are way off for me (Denver, we have a cold front coming in). This started for me about a week ago.

OK, now strangely after not working for over a week, my widget is giving me good numbers again. My guess is that if they changed the url or data format where this data is being fetched from that someone corrected it for backwards compatibility.

Same here. Just started working again. This has got to be one of the most unreliable widget out there.

Edit: The numbers are still a few degrees off from the official local weather and also surprisingly off from my local weather that's in the Today tab of notification centre. I'm done with this widget.

Is this what you're getting? These numbers are pretty much in line with what I'm seeing on weathernetwork

Furthermore, as far as I can tell, the widget has been working fine at least more than 2 weeks both on my iMac and MBP.

only time i look outside is when my widget is blank... After some cursing i look and see the weather

I've just noticed there is wind animation on the widget....

Has the dashboard weather widget always had live animation? Or was it added just recently?

I could be wrong but I recall seeing the windy condition animation a very long time ago, my guess is it's not new. You probably just never noticed it before.

I recall a thread on another forum from years ago where users mistook it for fog that's moving but it was in fact wind.
