I like the fun names, but they have no reasoning behind them & all the good ones are taken.

I think all the ones i mentioned have loads of google results, i want few google results so i stand out.

and as i said before if i wanted Blues monkey, i could register it as Blues monkey... web services, uk, solutions, designs, solutions uk, etc etc

I just want it to be memorable with few google results and .com and .co.uk available.

but i am stumped!

... Moody Moose?

No matter what your company name is no one would use Google to find your website if they know your name than they should know your web address.

Most Goggle searches will marketing or graphic design in an geographic area

EX: Web Development, NJ results in 43.6mill on Google

It is like looking for a chimney sweep and going to the phone book.

I am finishing uni this year, and i am setting up a web design company.

What shall I call it? i need some name ideas.

honestly I'm not convinced that the name of your company is that important. Why not just become coffeecup web services? It really doesn't mean bugger all. What matters is that your work is kick ass and happy clients spread the word for you.

Basically, don't get too caught up in thinking up a 'awesome' name.

Thanks a lot!! :D :D

Best advice yet, it has really settled me, and made me feel a lot better.

I know what I am doing is right and I know I can do it.

Good luck - post the final results and logo when you can.

One thing you can do is see what 5 or 6 letter words.com are still available out there. There are a few, believe it or not - even if you have to make up the word. That makes it quite easy for recognition....

And like others have said, you are better off getting more experience working for a company rather than just starting with nothing.

Agreed. You also said you're finishing Uni. What's your degree? In the Boston listings I'm finding that people are seeking designers (in general, not just for web) with skills in other areas. For many larger firms, designers know just how to design and that's it. Firms value employees who can also work with marketing, research, sales etc.

I was originally going to freelance. But it'd be much nicer to work for a firm. Plus there'd be benefits like health insurance.

If anybody says the word "solutions" to me, I want to punch them.

I don't have a problem, I just want a web site.

I guess I have a "comapny", as I make sites for a few people. My name is Thomas Edwards. So I have the address thomasedwards.co.uk and it seems to work.

Not really many benefits in UK for working for a firm unless it is a MASSIVE global company

ALSO i am gonna go with a name that describes what I am doings so, Something Designs

It may describe what you are doing, but it also says 'lack of creativity' which is something you don't want to be seen as.

Experience is the best thing you can obtain and it does not seem like you have much of it. You yourself said you couldn't do this stuff a year ago so it seems like you have one year of experience. Go work for someone for a couple of years so you can see their way of thinking and one way of running the business side of it and then go out on your own. While working with someone who already has clients you will meet a lot of people and your name will hopefully be spread by word of mouth.

Get a job and learn the ropes of the business and not just a few pieces of software. You will be glad you did in the long run. Don't rush into this stuff because your name might be spread in a bad way if you don't know what you are doing....

I went to college and recieved a Bachelors of Art in Commercial Design. When I graduated I thought I knew it all. I then realized that no school can teach you what the real world can. If you are focusing on print, most schools just focus on the design aspect. They dont really teach you the "do's and "don't's" of different printed material. For example, a 4 color web press has certain restriction that a digital press doesn't. Working for a firm will greatly benefit you when you do open your company. You can be the best designer in the world, but if no one knows you then you cant make money. Working for a firm will help you learn marketing and advertising tips. It will also help you to deal with clients, which isnt taught to much in school.

Hi, it depends on your target, whether your planing to oursource or develop in-house :)

Welcome to a year and a half ago...
:)

Seriously, I'm really surprised the OP got any help at all. The single character question mark posts make me mad reading though the topic (a year and a half later). The 2nd post was right on the spot! He provided no background or anything that would give people a clue to what he was looking for. He is being asking people to be original for him. :rolleyes:

I just opened up my own company after freelancing for a bit. I haven't had the chance to finish the website yet. Busy working on some projects with clients. http://www.pixelfxpro.com

Took a while to choose the right name. But its worth it. Branding is important.

Butt Monkey Designs lol

2 years and your a designer. Give me a break. Your one of the guys who's work I end up fixing all the time.

wow- can't believe this is two years old.. clicked from mainpage sidelink and completely ignored the dates of each post...
i wish the best to the OP - however every useful response given was simply answered with a ? = further waste of my time... entertaining though.

For my company when I'm done school I was thinking of using a Acronym.

Here's one for you.

REST Web Design Solutions

R = Redefining
E = Each
S = Solution
T = Together

I feel as though that has a nice creative personal touch.
