I'm not sure where to post this, so if it's in the wrong place, moderators, feel free to move it.

Anyway, my .Mac subscription expires soonish. I read all over the forums about how much of a ripoff .Mac is, how it is only good for people who don't want hassle, or don't know how. I got this year's subscription with the purchase of a new Mac, so it was only $70 for me. But now I'm looking for a hosting service, because that's essentially the only thing I use .Mac for, iDisk.

But as I look around for something comparable (1 GB of storage and plenty of transfers/month) I find that .Mac is a absolute steal.

Am I looking in the wrong places? Anyone has any recommendations? I want at least 1 GB of disk space, and a good amount of transfers/month. I want the option of setting up a site of my own, but I probably won't do anything too heavy. I will mainly use it for backups, storing pictures so I can put pictures in my posts, sharing files between computers, etc etc. I will be getting a domain of my own to make access easier. I don't need much hand-holding, I know how it all works. And Transmit is a great program, so I wouldn't mind ;)

Do what I did. Sign up for DreamHost.com's Level 1 Hosting (200 GB storage and 2 TB/month xfer) and use one of the promo codes to get $97.00 off of two years. It ends up being less than $100 for 2 years of hosting. Here's a code I found "QUICK97" and there's plenty of others on the internet.

If you like .Mac and find the convenience worth a small surcharge, a careful shopper can usually get it for about $70 on eBay, so you'd pay the same as you paid this year.
