Waybo: Let us know what camera and lens you are using and maybe we can give more insight. It is soft, but windows don't help. What exposure? Is it hand held?

Hi, Dale et al,

Here's all the info that I can find that is, or might be, useful! Did I leave anything out?

I am using a Nikon D3100 w/ Tamron AF 18-270mm f/3.5-6.3.
ISO 220, 46mm, 0 ev, f/4.5, 1/6
focus distance: ~12 m (39 ft.)
focal length (25mm): 69.0mm

Shot in Shutter priority. (I'm still a newbie ... Learned some more in the 11 days since I shot this, and now know that I probably should have used aperture priority ... )

It was shot in fairly dim lighting, and yes it was hand held, possibly/probably balanced on a railing though. Also, there was a bluish cast to everything, so I suspect there is a possibility that I had left my polarizing filter on. :(

Thanks!

Oh well, thanks for the review. *will try harder*. The gallery was pretty busy, but you are of course right, maybe I could have cropped it out, oh well, learning learning. Congrats Waybo.

Well if you were shooting in shutter priority you should have noticed that you had selected a 1/6 as the shutter speed.

While this may seem fast shooting handheld at 1/6 of a second is only for the very steady hands even at wide angles.

I would recommend sticking to 1/30 to take your shots handheld as this should make them sharper.

Shooting in aperture priority in this circumstance would have made no difference as I noticed that you were in fact at the minimum aperture your lens can go to at that focal length.

The one thing you could have done is used a faster shutter speed and increased the ISO so that the exposure would have been the same.

Can't remember the image off the top off my head but I would recommend getting a fast 50mm prime if you are keen on shooting at 50mm. This is about £100 for the nikon and has an aperture of f1.8 meaning that it can let in a lot more light than your current lens at 50mm.

zyggiepyggie - sneeks in as symmetry, and is well taken and clear - I like it. It is good to see daring in the contest but is it a United or City fan.

Thanks for the feedback! Well, I'm a United fan and my girlfriend is City so we'll go with half and half?
