Ever since we all started our hobby and/or profession, we've always been told of certain rules in composition and technique..

    -Rule of thirds
-Shoot with the light behind you
    -Keep your horizons straight
-Keep your subject in focus (depth of field, fast shutter)
    -Don't shoot in midday sun
-Frame for your subject to move into empty space
    -Negative space... faux pas
    -Fill the Frame
    -Dont cut off limbs
-Look for leading lines and symmetry (frame it straight)
    The list goes on...
Sometimes a shot looks best defying the rules...

So this week, unleash your inner rebellious teenager.

Pick a rule or few... Bend it a little or Break it beyond a doubt.... don’t let them get in the way of a brilliant shot!

The rules are as per normal:

    · The photographs must be your own work.

    · Be creative and have fun.

    · You may only submit one photo per contest.

    · Please do not comment on photos until after the judging has taken place.

    · The contest runs for one week, starting NOW!

    · At the end of the week, The Judge (last week's Winner) will choose a 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place photo, providing as much feedback as possible.

    · If the Judge is unable to complete the selection within 48 hours of the deadline for close, then a vote will be carried out to select a winner. This will be based on the number of "likes" each image has. In the event of a draw, the second place winner from the previous week will choose the tiebreaker.

    · The 1st place Winner will start a new thread with the topic/theme of their choice, and act as the Judge for that contest. (Winner has 48 hours to create new theme, after that it defers to 2nd place).

    · Winners please update the Weekly Photo Contest Master thread

Kicking this off with the unspoken rule against random rotations.

Are you trying to please the australian judge by posting an upside down photo?

It is not upside down. It is rotationally challenged.

Always have your smiling subjects face the camera and don't chop off fingers

This looks much more like a painting than a photograph.

Not good lines, light was wrong direction, water battle litter, not particularly sharp, but I liked it because I can relate to being "dog tired." (And I think that the dog is a bit of a rebel.)

I wanted to capture the graceful strength of the swimmer. My bad for putting the subject in the exact center of the frame. Also, even though it does not look like it, the top line of the arm lies on the horizontal center line of the frame. Oops.

No rules no imagination. Just a tiny line of fountains I spent some time with while sipping on my coffee. The rise and fall of water brought an unexplained peace to me.

    Thirsty

I could almost excuse the picture not being straight because one is so drawn to that look of thirst on the Little Man. And therein lies the problem, he is so not in focus. But that look tho'.

Sorry guys and girls, been snowed under last couple days. Got a few hours before I will have time to go through everything so will close this down in a couple hours in case there are any late entries, last chance to get them in.

Going to be a tough one to judge with all the variety in here, but I’ll do my best.

Always level your tripod when shooting panoramas (or don't).

I knew I should have gone with the "remove lens cap" rule.

I do think the crop takes it to the next level.
