For this weeks contest I thought I would reprise one of my favorite themes - Film Noir.
What I am mostly looking for is that dark mysterious feel of the genre. Have fun, maybe watch some old movies to get in the spirit.

As always, the standard rules apply:

• The photographs must be your own work. No AI generated images.

• You may only submit one photo per contest.

• No commenting or liking photos until after the judging has taken place.

• This contest runs for about a week, starting now.

• At the end of the competition, the judge (last week's winner) will choose a 1st, 2nd and 3rd place photo, providing as much feedback as possible.

• The 1st place winner will start a new thread here with the topic/theme of their choice, and act as the judge for that contest. (Winner has 48 hours to create new theme, after that it defers to 2nd place).

• Be sure to update the Contest Master List as soon as you post a new theme.

• Contest will end April 29 at 8 pm Pacific daylight savings time.

Can anyone update the master list for me? I can never seem to figure out how to get it to work as clickable. Thanks
Finally figured it out, so no need for the help.

I see the Canon 50mm ƒ1.8 RF focuses down to about 4x6 inches and with a bit of cropping could go slightly closer. Price seems reasonable as well. Might be worth considering.

"Behold, I have the prized air pods."
Nice grainyness, lighting and contrast, I really like this.

Looking up at dark staircase lit by skylight - Like the contrast and grainyness. The perspective gives a sense of mystery. The more I look at this the more I like it.

C0ncreteBl0nde
Nailed the theme, nice and dark, great capture of the cig smoke making an profile. Love it.

kendallm
The mystery for me in this shot is what this event is - a flea market of sorts?
Is the man in the center sitting with a typewriter in his lap?
Interesting capture, I like the light and contrast, and the way the vignette makes me zero in on the central character.

mtbdudex
Beautiful shot, nailed the focus, lighting and contrast. Great detail. I love this!
Wasn't this photo was the winner in last year "the light" theme contest?

StrollerEd
Stone staircase down to dark doorway.
I like the shot - it would probably have a more noir feel at night.

piatigorsky
Apparition on wall in empty tea room? Spooky, lonely feeling. Nice grainy texture.

oblomow
Angle of the light, strong contrast and blurred/ghostly person walking give a nice noir feel. Well done.

CooperBox
Hovering "protector robot"?
Darkness of "robot" against bright background outside contribute to a sense of mystery.

Thank you again for your entries. As usual, you've made this a difficult decision.

The results:

Third place : Cjsuk & Goldmac2006

Second place : mtbdudex & oblomow

Thanks for the podium spot. Really enjoyed doing these types of AirPods shots with the Apple Watch ⌚️ in black and white. Looking forward to the next contest

Your judging comments
Lotta talent here.

My entry .. hmm 63 brain forgot , apologies.
But it’s a valid point, I need a folder called “submitted contest entries” as this forum is my only photo forum now.

Wow! Thank you @Snowlover! There are so many great entries that I wasn't expecting this. Everyone nailed the theme this time and it was fun to look at all the photos.

I'm a bit under the weather atm, but I will be giving the next contest some thought and have it up as soon as I'm able. Thank you again and congrats to the other podium winners.

EDIT: to say, I totally agree with @mtbdudex ...the judging was spot on!

@kendallm : I was reviewing and enjoying these photos again today and when I came to yours, I really took a long look at. I'm fascinated...can you tell me more about this shot? Is the man sitting on his own little pile of leaves? Does he have a sign propped up on a briefcase? Is he selling something? I'd love to hear this story If you have a moment! 😀

This is in Washington Square Park in NYC. This guy sells custom written poems. I’ve seen him here a couple of times and he’s always dressed in a similar style with his typewriter. You can’t see it from this angle but the sign in front of him says “Custom Poems”. You sit and chat with him for a while and then he types you a custom poem on his typewriter. The leaves, chair, and no shoes (lol) was his setup this day. He always looks pretty out of place and dressed in a very formal way.
