Wow. In the Western Hemisphere we use the 2nd from the little finger.
Lots of good entries for this one! Alright, here goes:
@stillcrazyman Nice shot! Go to the botanical gardens, end up at a mini zoo!
@deep diver Certainly the sign of spring! I just got some things planted in the garden, but we've still got plenty of frosts ahead here so most will have to wait.
@Clix Pix Another sure sign of spring! I think my macro lens gets used more right when the trees start flowering than any other time! It's always hard to prioritize what's in focus, and I think you did a good job of getting all of the front most ones pretty crisp!
@Janichsan The number of failed photos I have trying to capture a bee flying near a flower is definitely pretty high. I don't think I have any that came out this good though! I like that both the flower and the bee are in focus, and the wings are frozen.
@mollyc I like this one! I think it's a bit distracting with the flower and the dog, and then all the blank space in the leash. I think I like it a bit more cropped in:
. But I do like the flowers bright and in focus, and the dog darker and blurred.
@someoldguy Ah the cherry blossoms in DC. Always a good time to be out photographing!
@Devin Breeding Nice macro! I don't know if it was intentional or just an artifact of the lens you were using, but I like how the background bokeh seems to radiate away from the flower!
@oblomow Chicks are a sure sign of spring! Regardless of what the weather says, the birds come. It almost looks like the chicks said something mean to the bird on the left, and the bird on the right is giving them a stern talking to.
@MtLoin2020 No pics of a clicky pen! Oh well, next time...
@tcphoto1 I like this one! A growth in a growth. I'm personally a fan of bright images, and this one certainly is! It seems like everyone always says "dynamic range this" or "dynamic range that" and never just lets highlights blow when they should. In this case it certainly helps draw the eye to the green parts.
@OldMacs4Me A full collection of spring flowers! I don't know if this was intentional, but the dandelion just plopped right in front of the divider is just like they do in a real garden. Right smack in the middle of everything!
@ractdi That's a nice sunrise! We're quickly approaching the season where I'm not awake for sunrise anymore unfortunately
@Apple_Glen_UK We've finally hung stuff to dry outside too! Though it all had to come back in before this morning's snow...
@tizeye Great shot of those birds! With the hair and the face it looks like a cackling bird!

Okay, I'm fine now. Thanks for the honour of the first place and all of its obligations. 😉
But yeah, that picture is definitely a lucky shot. I think I ran up the better part of an hour back and forth that line of cherry trees, manically taking pictures of anything remotely bee-like, and ended up with two good pictures. That was one of them, the other one is this:
It'll probably be until tomorrow evening (CEST) before I can post a new contest. I think I might have an idea already, though.

Congratulations to all and what a great group of entries. That "crackling bird" is a Great White Heron chick. Unfortunately, the heron flew off as I was setting up, but did get the interaction of the chicks in the nest as they interact with each other. With a rather unique eye-level perspective and the reason for the delayed setup, the camera was mounted on a painters pole (a giant monopod) and raised about 15 feet up while keeping a distance with a telephoto. The weight of the lens and camera causes the pole to whip back and forth so there is no waiting for the opportune time, compounded with the slight lag with the wifi triggering of the camera shutter - what was viewed and framed on the phone as the photo was "taken" may not be the actual photo with the time lag and whipping movement.

Thanks for the kind words. As I said this was an educational exercise. The dandelion was an afterthought. Partly to fill in a bland spot, partly to break up the divider, and to allow me to figure out how to place the leaf and a bit of the lilac over top of the dandelion.
Used it as a postcard to various family members back in 2006.

It was interesting to see your recrop. I can see how that would be a better option for some. For me, knowing the location, I like the path off to the left, as it leads into the woods, and the darkness is fairly true to life, walking in from an open trail that was once a railway line. For me there is an extra element of storytelling about the dog walking in, but I see how for an outsider that is probably lost. 🙂
