Weekly Photo Contest: Insect(s) - June 28,2020 - July 05, 2020

It's summer for those in the northern hemisphere.
Lot's of insects around, your submitted photo could be 1 insect or 1,000's of them.
Be creative, be unique, be bold, and above all don't harm any while taking the picture :)

The theme is for Insect(s).
(Added spiders)

Be safe, be well and have fun!

The rules are as follows:

· Follow all relevant local laws regarding stay-at-home orders. If you can't go outside, try and take a photo at home or grab one from the archives.

· Do not comment, vote, react or click “like” on images prior to the winners being announced.

· The photographs must be your own work.

· You may only submit one photo per contest.

· This contest runs for one week. If in doubt, check the dates in the title.

· At the end of the week, The Judge will choose a 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place photo, providing as much feedback as possible.

· If the Judge is unable to complete the selection within 48 hours of the deadline, then last week's 2nd place has to step in. 3rd place takes over should 2nd place be similarly unable to officiate.

· The 1st place Winner will start a new thread with the topic/theme of their choice, and act as the Judge for that contest. (Winner has 48 hours to create a new theme, after that it defers to 2nd place).

· Be sure to update the Contest Master List as soon as you post a new theme.

Example: This image has 1,000's of insects .... Of course single insect Marco's also, etc. Have fun!

Ok, as a newbie judge these are my thoughts:

Entry 1 Post#2 oblomow

“The spider and the fly”

I like this, it shows cause and purpose, and soon result – a meal.

Nice capture.

Entry 2 Post #4 tizeye
“metal antie’s”

I was on the fencepost of what movie this takes me to, the recent MARVEL “Ant Man” or what Joan Collins did in the 70’s, “Empire of the ants”, “Ant Man” for the cuteness of them.

Entry 3 Post #5 Hughmac
“macro ant”

I sense this ant struggling here, to overcome some major obstacle, I like it

Entry 4 Post #6 CmdrLaForge
“busy bees”

The motion of the bees is captured nicely in this still image, I can hear them, their wings beating….

Entry 5 Post #8 someoldguy
“dragonfly chillin”

Crisp, clear, chillin in the sun. Truly I’m feeling the vibe here, good POV work.

Entry 6 Post #9 Darmok N Jalad
“the pollen n the bee”

Nicely shot, I love letting my eye wander here, seeing the nice colors, the sharp detail, great POV image

Entry 7 Post #10 Janichsan
“red bug”

Looks comfy on that white wildflower

Entry 8 Post #11 Alexander.Of.Oz
“full frontal bug out”

I love this image, it captivates me, the spot focus, bent antenna, everything … kudos

Entry 9 Post #13 mackmgg
“butterfly – man”
I see a man’s face on the front of this butterfly, nice capture

Drum roll ....... top 3 rankings:

3rd place: “the pollen n the bee” by Darmok N Jalad

2nd place: “dragonfly chillin” by someoldguy

1st place and winner: “full frontal bug out” by Alexander.Of.Oz

@mtbdudex well done on your first adjudication duties, I loved reading your reactions to the images presented. That was nice, like having a chat with a friend and hearing their thoughts! It was surprising to me that more didn't join in with this theme; actually @mollyc was conspicuously AWOL! I hope everything is okay for you and the family, Molly. Well done to those that came and played, I felt that @Darmok N Jalad had this one in the bag with that perfectly place bee on the Echinacea!

Mine was a failed attempt of using macro rails manually, where I could only merge the front 34 frames together covering about 6mm, creating this image. I must have made a major error in my micro-adjustments, juggernauting way ahead further onto the mid section as I could merge those rear 93 frames together, but there was a missing middle section with no focus! I will try it again one day, when I feel like doing something that pernickety once more. 🤓

I'll ruminate on the next theme this morning.

I don’t mind the safety of third, but thanks. I did like how that one turned out. :)

I know mine was different and was debating a more traditional -caterpillar munching on a leaf - but in the process of looking for something else stumbled on this. Our local botanical garden will have traveling artist exhibits, such as dinosaurs, frogs, fairies, etc, placed throughout the gardens with a "find the..." exercise for children. This event was insects. You may have noticed during the past week that I posted others in the POTD.

Good luck in the next competition all.

By the way, I found giving each photo it’s own name helped me in judging.

Just a suggestion: each artist name their photo for future competitions.
I’ve been in other photography forums contests and naming your image was the submitting artist task.
