Weekly Photo Contest (Jan 11 - Jan 18) Topic: Golden Hour

    Rules:

    1. You may only submit one photo per contest.

    2. The contest runs for exactly one week, from the first time stamp of the first post in the thread (this will be made by the winner of the previous week's contest).

    3. Please refrain from commenting on the photos submitted in the contest. A good photograph is one that can appeal to someone who may not know much about the technical aspects of photography, so it would be best if the judge isn't swayed by someone else's opinion of the photograph.

    4. The judge will choose his/her favorite at the end of the week, place a post listing it, and include a short synopsis of why he/she chose that photo. The winner is then responsible for choosing a new topic and starting a new contest thread, which will again run for exactly one week.

    This week's theme: Golden Hour
I'm looking forward to seeing your entries.
    Have fun!

Also a picture of the day for me recently. Some history:

The Stonehenge Mansion was built in 1914 for Samuel Hoyt Venable, a bachelor, and his sister, Elizabeth Venable Mason, her husband, Frank Tucker Mason, and their children. The architect for the mansion was Edward Bennett Dougherty. Another of Mr. Venable's Sisters, Mrs. Leilla Venable Ellis was responsible for the murals and other art work throughout the house. The mansion was built in the Domestic Gothic Style of the Tudor period from Stone Mountain granite.

Sam Venable and his brother William Venable owned and operated the Southern Granite Company which in turn owned Stone Mountain, Arabia Mountain, and Pine Mountain. Naturally, they chose granite as the primary building material for their home.

Shot a while ago, and posted elsewhere, but I couldn't resist.

Just put this lens on eBay a couple days ago. The lens is way better than the photo. A 37 ounce prime!

    My first ever submission..

This photo was taken in Aug 2009 in Navarre Beach, FL. It's my first ever POTW post. I'm still a photography newbie...so I don't mind any "advise" given. Enjoy.

It's been cloudy and the weather report calls for snow and snow showers over the next 5-6 days, so I had to pull up a "golden hour" photo of a sunset from my backyard taken this past October when I was playing with exposures on my camera.

Sunset over Calgary. This was back in the summer, when the sun set very slowly here. You can see the reflection from some houses, and Canada Olympic Park, the site of the 1988 Winter Olympics, against the sun setting.
