It's certainly a not the most original topic and a staple of instagrammable imagery, but it's been a while since we had this topic. Give me your best shot at mouthwatering food and drink photography – or interpret "delicious" in an unexpected way!

As always, standard rules apply:

The photographs must be your own work.
  • You may only submit one photo per contest.
  • No commenting or liking photos until after the judging has taken place.
  • This contest runs for about a week, starting now.
  • At the end of the competition, the judge (last week's winner) will choose a 1st, 2nd and 3rd place photo, providing as much feedback as possible.
  • The 1st place winner will start a new thread here with the topic/theme of their choice, and act as the judge for that contest. (Winner has 48 hours to create new theme, after that it defers to 2nd place).
  • Be sure to update the Contest Master List as soon as you post a new theme.
  • Contest will end July 22nd, 2025 at noon CEST.

Thanks for all your entries! Here's my judgement with some comments, which are all just my personal opinion:

@mollyc Juicy strawberries, accentuated by the depth of field, atmospheric lighting – gorgeous and delicious!

@iPhone-Guy Fat blueberries on the bush, not quite ripe yet. Don't worry about the portrait orientation, it fits the motive.

@Snowlover More fruit on their tree, apples this time, looking almost good to pick. I feel the photo would have more impact with a stronger focus on just one bunch of the apples.

@aperfectcircle Looks like a delicious birthday or anniversary meal with a side of strawberries. Nice lighting and depth of field, but I would have preferred the focus on the dish.

@Strider64 He seems happy with that fat, juicy maggot. A closer crop might have put him more in the spotlight, though.

@C0ncreteBl0nde Another juicy fruit, an orange this time. The depth of field nicely accentuates the details of the segments.

@kendallm That's a gorgeous and artfully decorated cake! Looks almost too nice to eat.

@BotchQue A tasty looking pizza, apparently handmade. By yourself?

@goldmac2006 A noodle soup with some meat and a good helping of leafy greens. An image worthy for a cookbook.

@Apple_Glen_UK A nice pint of Guinness fresh from the tap. The distortion from the wide angle length distracts a bit, but I guess the tight space didn't allow for a different point of view.

@StrollerEd A tasty looking slice of bread with what I guess is avocado creme, pine nuts, perfectly poached eggs, spices, and olive oil. Mouthwatering.

@arkitect Another appetizing shot worthy to go with the corresponding recipe. The dark background and the focus on the nicely browned crust make the image pop.

@squawk7000 A nice hot beverage (cappuccino?) and a pastry (something like a fritter?) on a sunny day in an outdoor cafe. That's life!

Okay, that really wasn't easy. But here's my top 3:

3rd place: shared by @kendallm and @StrollerEd

2nd place: @arkitect

1st place: @mollyc

thanks for the feedback.

My photo is hot chocolate, and a chocolate covered bun. It was at Cocoa Mountain, a small specialist chocolatier at Balnakeil near Durness on the far north coast of Scotland; any further north and your feet get wet.
They self describe it as 'the Best Hot Chocolate', and it is indeed wonderful sitting out on the patio on a clear morning. It's almost compulsory to lick the mug and plate clean :)

Are you serious?

I am most certainly an amateur… and I think that goes for most people who posted.

🤔
There are 'professional' photographers who enter the competition, one only has to do some cursory 'internet searching' to see that.
