We would all agree with this, but the goal is not to influence the judging. The discussion following the judging is often very rich.
Where in Jersey. I grew up in Philadelphia and we spent a lot of time down the Shore. That was before casinos when Atlantic City was still a nice place to be -- a lot like the way Cape May is now but much bigger.
Look at you go!

That shot of the ocean was taken from the Springlake boardwalk which is just south of Belmar. The boardwalk is about 2 miles long so it's one of our favorite spots for a seaside walk.

Taken at North America's most easterly point, Cape Spear, Newfoundland. There were also several Icebergs near by at the time this photograph was taken.

I am currently traveling so I hope this shows up correctly (posting from my phone).

This is from the ferry through the Næroy Valley fjords in Norway.

When I was at Penn State, we would periodically drive out to Belmar to go wreck diving.

Thanks everyone for participating in this weeks contest which is now closed. For me it was a very interesting contest with 2 exchanges of pictures with even more save for work versions then before and lots of really good entries. Not all meeting the theme, going to the judgment even so I am not really qualified to do so. I try my best.

@RedOctober

I immediately liked this shot as I wanted to jump in right away. Nice cropping to wide landscape format. Also it really meets the theme.

@Hughmac

Wow - those trees look icy. Like after a really cold night. Also I really like to foreground background composition with the tree hanging from the top to create a more 3D experience. I didn't felt it fully met the theme.

@kenoh
A wonderful shot. Definitely one of my favourites. I really want to lick that water drops off. Very nicely meets the theme.

@someoldguy
Who doesn’t want to be in that scene? Love the landscape and I would enjoy taking a hike along those shores.

@ dwfaust
Same here. Even so the wind seems more refreshing then the water. I would love to be there instead of behind my desk.

@deep diver
This water seems to be very fresh. I could imagine putting my feet in there and get refreshed. Maybe after a hike through the forests.

@Alexander.Of.Oz
Love this shot as it also has an artistic value Nice foreground blur. Very close to the winners.

@anotherscotsman
Indeed refreshing. Also a good use of multi exposure or fast shutter speeds ?!

@georgeinnj
A good and very nice composed shoot. Even so this water seems to refreshing for me.

@Indydenny
A perfect shoot. Very nice composed. Extremely well meeting the theme. Congrats.

@Apple fanboy
A very nice shoot also very nice composed. And yes there is water but I am not sure if it is meeting the theme.

@OzBok
I love this shoot with the water drops light by the sunlight. They for sure look refreshing to the man walking there.

@anewman143
Love the cascade in particular because I like the outdoors and hiking. What better can there be. Also nice composition.

@Elbert C
This picture does even have a drawing like effect. Looks like a painting but its not. I guess you could even enhance that. Very nice shoot.

@buttongerald
Yes there is water and from the description it was I guess at a fantastic landscape. I guess you cropped to much. Now it just looks like a wave in the ocean. Just when looking at the very right top corner one can see that there might be more then meets the eye.

@E3BK
I love outdoors and Fjords in particular. And there is water. But I am not sure if it meets the theme.

@needfx
Much much better then your first one as that was really disturbing. I thought I look at an alien from the x-files. This one is very nice. One can feel how refreshing this water must be and with the two hands just appearing. Great shot ! Congrats.

Great contest everyone and lots of great shoots. Picking a winner in particular under the first three was very difficult. I definitely wanted to pick a picture that meets the theme. Everyone had water but that was not the topic alone. Had to be refreshing… I didn’t wanted to comment to much on the artistic value or the composition. And now to the winners:

3rd place kenoh

2nd place needfx

1st place Indydenny

Thanks a lot to everyone, now to Indydenny

Cheers

Great theme and judging CdmrLaForge - congratulations to all the podium placements.

Six shots merged with Hugin - only every second shot was masked hence the "ghost" images in-between to give greater impression of movement.

Replaced submission with a less provocative image
again though, another revisited/edited 2004 photo, shot with a canon powershot S50 in its respective underwater housing
But you wouldn't be Needfx without the odd provocative image!

What are these water droplets on Ken? I like the affect.

I prefer the one with the icebergs you posted in the POTD thread.

Thank you kindly AFB. So, the hotel we were staying at on holiday has a convention centre and a huge lawn out front for cheese and nibbles etc.

When there is an event on, in order to protect the lawn so it looks nice during the day and doesnt get crumpled by the crowds, they put down this big plastic platform like a huge stage. It all integrates into the pathways coming off the lawn and is really quite well done.

Anyway, they take it away again once the event has happened so they are back to lush green lawn for the view from the room during the day again...

On top of it, they then lay a transparent rubberised layer so it is not slippery.

When finished, they hose it down prior to breaking it up.

I managed to grab a shot between hosing it and dismantling it...
[doublepost=1467986400][/doublepost]Well done, great entries everyone, and great feedback @CmdrLaForge. Thank you for a podium nod... I thought the entries this week were fantastic!

Thanks for the feedback. The image is cropped a little bit, and originally I was going to post an image that I also happened to post in the Photo of the Day thread, but I chose this one instead.

Popped my photo contest cherry! Some great photos this week, and it's this thread plus the POTD threads that inspired my camera purchase. So thanks to all the regulars who made me want to get started.

Well done Kenoh, needfx and Indy!

That was a real test for me, the left part of shot in complete shade, setting sun behind to left. Still learning exposure and this one had the best lighting of the drops from what I took. Was a real balancing act brining out the detail with the runner and path without blowing out the water droplets. Great theme Cmdr

Well done. It is a tough range of light to capture.

Now you need to post each week!

Where was yours? I'm sure I remember a shot of yours that would have fitted the theme perfectly. The one of the child in the fountain.

That one was more mist than water, but thanks for remembering it! I was going to enter one, with water pouring from a terracotta jug, but time got away with me and suddenly I was reading the results. I've been working on a storytelling set of three images this week titled A Visit to a Coffee Shop for the final week of a short photo course I've just done. With a title like that, it obviously took a lot of research! :)

Thanks for judging and the commentary . My entry was taken near the eastern entrance to Yosemite , just off Tioga Road . Nice place , but I'd rather be surf casting down the beach from @dwfaust.

In a coffee shop.
Thought @kenoh's shot superb - actually, I was quite certain that it had wrapped up the competition, - until, that is, I saw @Indydenny's fantastic and thrilling shot, which is when I realised that there was now a real competition taking place. Two fantastic shots, both beautifully composed.

Actually, I was dying to see how @kenoh had set about photographing this picture, so, my thanks for the explanation you furnished; very interesting.

Others I really liked included @OzBok's very expressive shot - I have walked in winter along a promenade in a pretty similar setting, and the slightly threatening, somewhat brassy cold light of the winter sun is beautifully captured.

Must say that I also really liked @Elbert C's shot as well, very atmospheric.

Great competition @CmdrLaForge, and very good feedback with your thoughtful judging.

Wow, how very flattering. Thank you. As usual I didnt think I stood a chance against the strength of the competition so was over the moon to take a podium place.

The picture was just a lucky grab. I say lucky, that was my selecred one from about 30 playing with angles and light and the plastic gave different light depending on angle and direction. There were obvious blacks, a browny colour and this amazing blue so must have been some polarisation going on too.

Great comp this week though and getting tougher each week which is good that we are all raising our game.
