Gloves? Lifting straps? Bah! Those are for babies. I assume those of you that wear gloves or straps also wear diapers?

Me? No gloves or straps for me. Nope. Before each lift I like to rub my chunky, meaty hands across a cheese grater to really loosen 'em up. Really gets the blood flowing, you know? Plus, all the free-flowing blood provides a "cooling layer" for my hands when I grip the bar.

Except I don't really grip the bar, because I'm so alpha. I just pinch it between my finger and thumb.

The biggest problem I have is every time I rotate my arm to check the time on my Apple Watch, I pop the strap and have to buy another one.

Damn, I'm alpha.

not to state the obvious but your watch does have an adjustable band... move it up higher on your wrist.

yep, this is what I do. The only problem with this was the velcro collar on the glove would constantly push in the digitial crown, so I flipped my watch so the crown is facing away from the glove (toward my elbow). Now it's perfect.

No way would I wear gloves. However, I can only recommend moving the watch up because it can also interfere with push-ups and narrow bench. Or get new gloves with less wrist cover

Sorry. No great answer.

Daaaamn that is some alpha **** right there. Dont forget when you finish your reps to throw the weights against the wall, that will really lock in the alpha status.

Yes it is.

I actually have to remove the weights one by one before I put the bar down because if I didn't, the whole thing would crash through the floor and punch the earth right in the gut.

hahaha it's pretty funny to read these comments about gloves.

but seriously guys, some of us are married and it would be easy to lose the ring if i had to take off the ring every time at the gym.

Seriously, don't wear gloves. Take the gloves off and build some actual grip strength.

Gloves...

The responses here are cracking me up!

No, I do not have the glove problem with my watch because ... I don't wear gloves when I lift. I like the raw feel of metal on my skin.

As for my wedding ring, I permanently affixed it (tattoo) about 15 years ago (for safety reasons with my line of work). I know that's not practical for everyone for personal or even religious reasons.
You may want to check out Qalo's rings if you haven't. They have a couple of lines and should be producing an athletic line soon (but they're all pretty much the same).

Wrong. Your gloves are producing friction. YOU are not holding the weight - your gloves are. Gloves do not simply prevent callouses, they prevent you from developing a strong grip. Just like a weight belt (used improperly) inhibits the development of a strong back and strong abdominals.

how do gloves prevent strength? My muscles are still holding the weight. The gloves are just to prevent callouses.

I paid good money (okay maybe I was ripped off) for my wedding band and I'm not about to change it to a rubber ring.

Lose the gloves. Seriously. If you need wrist support get some wrist wraps. If you don't wanna ruin your smooth hands on heavy lifts use straps. I have a callous on my palm under every finger on both hands and I wouldn't have it any other way.

But if you're not lifting large amounts of weight you really don't need anything. It's like wearing goggles in the shower. It's overkill.

sorry, when me and the wife have seksy time, I need to keep my hands smooth for when I'm caressing her butt cheeks and breastesses

Hilarious. Girls seem to like my hands just fine. And my hands look like they're attached to a male of above average strength.

I was ripped-off as well. ;)
I still wear mine on a few occasions (when I'm not worried about getting it crushed, scratched, or lost).

So I was wearing my watch and found out my weight lifting gloves don't really fit over the glove. Anyone find a way around this that doesn't involve taking off the watch? What brand gloves do you have that work well around this problem?

Usually just use a bit of tape if anything. That or bare hands.

I'm a woman and don't wear my rings to the gym. I also don't wear gloves.

for how many?
If its a few i understand but 10-12 grip tends to give out after a few

Good question. It was a single. My max is 405. My workout was 10x1 at 360 today.

I trained as an Olympic lifter for a few months before I got injured last September. It wasn't unusual to perform 50,60,70,80 pulls from the floor or from boxes, and obviously without straps. We'd maybe use straps on clean pulls and snatch pulls, but otherwise it's taped thumbs (hook grip) and hands. For a set of 10 DL, which would necessitate something in the 70% range (285ish) I could probably double overhand hook grip it for all 10. Chalk would help for sure. However I usually don't do more than 4x4 at 80 to 85%.

yea i started using straps when i couldn't hold the weight past 275 and i care more about bodybuilding than powerlifting. If i never used straps id feel like id have limitations cause I'm concentrating more on my grip than the actual movement after a certain point. gloves are worthless to me but straps are beneficial depending on what you want to do.
