Interesting. I just did a whole new clean install on my problematic MacMini and this time didn't restore my Home folder from my Leopard Time Machine and now my WiFi is staying full speed, not a blip. I will manually just copy my iTunes and files over and reinstall stuff instead. Maybe the Time Machine migration messed up and overwrote files in the Library directory but I read one post that a chap noticed his WiFi went bad after installing iLife. For now I will just leave all as it is. I did notice after my last clean install and time machine migration before that even iPlayer was stuttering but now straight from install it is fine. Although a right pain I don't mind starting my Time Machine from scratch seeing as it's a new OS and if it fixes my major WiFi problems. Speedtest now says 9Mb/s instead of the 1Mb/s after migrating Home folder. I hope everybody else gets their WiFi fixed as it annoyed me but now I am having fun with Snow Leopard. I just won't restore anything ever again!

My wireless connection was practically unusable after a clean install of Snow Leopard; I couldn't keep a connection for more than 5-10 minutes.

I stopped using the wireless connection on my Time Capsule and connected via a wireless router instead, and now it seems to be working fine.

Just adding my name to the list of people who have had internet connection issues since upgrading to 10.6. The only difference about my story is that my problem isn’t intermittent — I cannot ever load any web pages despite a full connection to wireless routers.

I didnt notice this thread before but i have the same problem, it's always connected but pages just get stuck. What's also weird is google image search doesnt work.

I'm having this problem as well. I have tried pretty much every suggestion from various posts over in the Apple support forum that made sense, but no luck. A few days ago I was able to get it to work a few times by rebooting my router and re-doing my network configuration setup on my macbook. But nothing has been consistent and now while I can connect to my router and get a good IP address I still cannot get an internet connection. When I ping a website I get an "Unknown Host" message.
I'm about to have a call with an apple care support person so I'll post if I am able to get a fix that works. If not, then I'm going back to Leopard and not looking forward to doing that...

I just got my problem fixed after a surprisingly brief call to Apple tech support. here's what I had to do:

1.) Open the Network preference pane in System Preferences.
2.) Select the "Airport" service. Delete it by pressing the minus sign at the bottom of the window.

3.) Click the plus sign to add a new service. For the Interface, select "Airport." Press "Create."
4.) Press "Apply."
5.) Select the new service (it will probably be called "Airport 2") and make sure Airport is turned on.

That's all I had to do! The support tech did mention that I might have to do this again for when I plug in to an Ethernet connection, but that's no big deal.

I do want to mention that I never had the intermittency issues mentioned by many here and elsewhere. I simply could not ever access the internet, despite full wireless connection or Ethernet connection.

Best of luck to you all.

I just tried this. We'll see how well it works... :(

No luck. It still keeps cutting out.

This sucks! Yesterday, my Macbook was the best thing since sliced bread. Now, I'm ready to throw it in the pool.

Right.... Lets see how we go. I have updated the firmware on my router... lets see if it makes a difference! Ill report back ( i have little faith though!)

I'm pretty sure that the problem lies with my router or DSL modem. My Macbook Pro will connect and work fine with other routers. Atlanta Bread is using a B, and Barnes & Noble is using a G and I can connect to them and surf the web with no problem.
My Linksis N router is 2 years old. So I'll just go ahead and get a Mac Airport Extreme. My stepson has a 2 year old Dell laptop so the dual-band capability will work great here.

I came across this possible solution. It has enabled me to stay connected for over 10 minutes, which is longer than I've been able to stay online for the last several days. I'll post again if it does not last.

Here is a common fix that has worked for some people:

1. Open System Preferences.

2. Select Network > Location.

3. Clic on Edit Locations…

4. Add a new location. You can name it anything you like.

That’s all you have to do! It seems that this process resets the networking and makes it work again.

Yeah! I had the same problem with being able to connect onto the network, but the internet not working.

So...

Go into Preferences > Networks, then Delete 'Airport' on the LHS by highlighting it and clicking on the (-) button, then Re-add it again.

The internet now works perfectly again!

I just tried this now. We'll see how it goes, but this has been annoying the crap out of me lately.

the delete/add the airport connection hasn't changed it.

im starting to think its a coincidence that people are having wifi problems on snow leopard while i am.

im very far away from my router and this could be the source of my problem of the wifi connection drops.

ill look more into it.

I got the same problem, wifi connection break from time to time, and I just try the solution above that delete the Airport and create another called Airport2, now let's see if it works or not.

I try the solution that delete the Airport and create another one called Airport2, but I have to leave my office and I only test for 15 minutes.

One thing I note immeditately is that my Internet radio player --Roku can now play my iTunes playlist, I was able to do that before I upgrade to SL, now it is working again.

so im on sl 10 6 1 with airport extreme. now i get no internet connection at times. and when it drops connection i have to input password and it tells me its wrong. this is driving me crazy im connected now on an un protected linksys router. im going back to 10.6 to see if it helps.

It seems delete Airport and add it back solution is not work, I test today for 8 hours, it went fine until now ,it went off again.

A possible solution?

Hi,
I'm running a MB-Pro 15" and iMac, and ungraded to snow leopard this afternoon.

Upgraded my MBP first and found that it was not connecting to the internet via our wireless modem.

I rang my ISP, and they tried to work out the problem. He made me check my TCP/IPs - all okay for my modem; When we got to the DNS server it was a problem.

Check your DNS servers. Mine had changed to something weird after the upgrade (on both of my machines). He talked me through what my DNS should have been.

Presto, it worked, and has done so continuously.

Cheers

For what it's worth, here's how I fixed my wireless problem:

Ever since the upgrade to Snow Leopard, I experienced constant disconnects. Roughly every 15 minutes or so my macbook pro would drop the connection, I would notice the airport symbol in the menu bar was greyed out. I'd click it, and it would almost instantly reconnect. So although I had functioning internet, it was extremely irritating to have to constantly reconnect.

I tried various solutions, rebooting the router, deleting and re-adding the airport details and others; none of them worked.

The only thing that worked was this: I switched my router's security from WEP to WPA-PSK. The instant I did this, my macbook's connection to the router was rock solid, and has been ever since.

I'm not a remotely techy guy so I have no idea why this worked. But it worked.

You have also increased the security of your wireless network. WEP can be hacked very quickly. WPA-PSK TKIP is harder to hack. WPA2 is harder still ;)

What fixed for me was manually entering one DNS entry and only one. Leave off the secondary.

There seems to be a problem with slow DNS servers and when it tries the secondary server it looses the DNS.

yeah i thought it worked, but i'm having the same problem still. i'm starting to get really annoyed. i might do a reinstall of the old leopard since i haven't really noticed any improvements by installing snow leopard, only problems.
