You did not have to buy from AT&T to keep your unlimited. I ordered at full price from Apple and will be keeping BOTH of our unlimited contracts.

Yeah, those shipping dates are not a joke. It's really what they mean. Same thing happened to me last year. Only they didn't tell people those dates until well after they had placed their orders. iPhone release date was Sept 19th last year. I waited, and waited, and finally one day I found the gold 6 plus I wanted at a local Apple Store. I canceled my AT&T order and my upgrade was available instantly. That's how I know my phone was nowhere near "preparing to ship" like it said. Anyways I ended up reserving the phone I wanted at the Apple Store and had it in my hands the same day. That was on October 1st. My order was still not due to ship from AT&T until Oct 16 or later. This year I ordered from Apple with no problems. Order went through instantly and is on the way to me as I type this. Never again will I pre-order through AT&T. Lesson learned.
From my understanding, the 6S aren't delayed as much as the 6S plus. That's the one the OP ordered.
Exactly. I don't get why people keep saying "should have ordered from Apple" obviously we all would if we could have kept our two year and price. I don't get the constant complaining of how it's our own fault that we didn't use Apple.
I am not saying it is anyone fault. I am pointing out that there is a penalty if you did not order from Apple. You got a cheaper cost but some have to wait a bit longer. It also has nothing to do with you keeping your unlimited plan as it will keep going no matter who you bought it from.
and YES, I paid full price through Apple and it does not bother me a bit. I actually paid full price TWICE as I have two iPhone arriving on Friday.

I would love to order from Apple. The last two years they weren't able to process my preorder. I did reserve a pair of devices "just in case", but it doesn't seem like I'll have to worry about that.
IMO, AT&T is being greedy and figuring they already got you, and saving the limited number of 6s+'s they're getting for walk in traffic that is not an AT&T customer yet. Shortsighted and they won't connect hemorrhaging customers with this.
I prefer to buy it from Apple and pay the extra money. I do not wish to sign a new 2 year contract. All 5 of our lines have unlimited data and that will not change.

Same with TMO. I can either buy outright from Apple, or "everything else" from TMO. Such is life. I feel like things have only gotten more confusing buying from Apple over the years. I bought on contract from them every year except last (and of course this year), and it's looking like this will, sadly, continue.
The thing I keep coming back to is that the following sentence makes no sense:

I would much rather wait a few days and pay less. With my 2-year subsidy and FAN discounts I pay very little compared to most. Waiting is fine. It's not as if they didn't tell us about the delayed ship dates when we ordered. People just chose to not believe it, no matter how many times customer service reps have confirmed the later ship dates. Maybe they will come early, but it's foolish to count on it.
You can order an iPhone 6S Plus now and get it by 9/25 from T-Mobile.
Perhaps the AT&T 6S Plus model has issues. There are two models. One is AT&T and the other is for Verizon/T-Mobile/Sprint. The difference is AT&T has band 30.

This year it took me less than 3 minutes to spend over $2000 on my two iPhones. I used the Apple store app and I was back in bed in minutes with a big smile on my face! It was the easiest year ever for me. AT&T has sucked in years past and screwed up my order a few years back. Lesson learned!!!
Because full price is cheaper (for you) in the long run. Paying the next installments over the next 1 or 2 years will cost you more that if you buy out right and sell once you want a new phone.
This! people saw the 10/16-10/23 date and ordered expecting to receive on 9/25. They are the ones complaining that they woke up at 3:00AM to preorder, are calling at&t every ten minutes to get updates on their order, demanding to speak to supervisors, complaining that chat reps are giving canned answers...

You keep repeating that you spent a few grand on phones this year. I think we get it. For those that don't wish to leave $400 on the table per device every two years, they go the subsidy route.
Can you get a discount on an unlimited data plan if you have the phone outright? If so, that's my plan for next year.
It has been shared here many times that the shipping does not always update online in a timely or logical manner.
