I interchange OS X and OS10 when speaking. Fact of the matter is that you don't know how it's 'supposed' to be pronounced unless you've heard somebody say it, and there are no instructions on pronunciation on the box.

I also think most are smart enough to realise that X is the Roman numeral for 10, and that versions of the Mac OS existed before this, regardless of how they say it.

No, what people don't realize is that there were no Mac OS 1-9. The X in Mac OS X means X-TREEEEEME. Because everything is X-TREEEEEME nowadays.

Take your computer expereince to a new adrenaline high with Mac OS X-TREEEEEME!

I have been using a Mac since OS 7, not as long as some here but a while none-the-less. I don't even remember what the original 'name' was bu I think 'Kanji Talk' was around 7.5 -- 'Kanji Talk' was the name given to the Japanese OS

I know it's nothing compared to many people here, but my computer history goes like this (anything with an * I still have/use):

Mac SE w/ System 5 *
Tiny PC with Windows 3.1
Backlit Mac Portable with System 7
A Toshiba Satellite (4000, I think) with Win 95
An old Powermac (6000 series) with System 7
A PII Toshiba Satellite with Windows 98 *
A Packard Bell with XP
A Powerbook G4 with 10.2 (now 10.3) *
A C2D iMac with Tiger *
A Classic with System 7 *
A Powermac G4 with 10.1 (now 10.3) *
A Packard Bell laptop with XP *

When I first got my Powerbook I was amazed at how much Apple's OS had changed, as I hadn't been following Apple at all. The Mac lab at my old college still uses OS 9, even on the eMacs.

As an aside, did anyone else use Acorn computers? Those were the days...

When I got my G4 Quicksilver I hated OS X. I didn't use it until 10.2 was released.

I've still got my Acorn Electron...

The first Mac I used was a black & white Mac back in 1990. I have no clue with the operating system was. I stopped using Macs in 1999 and return back to them in 2006.

I don't know why but I just can't use any MacOS prior to OSX. IMO Windows was just a nicer experience up until Vista where OSX just took the standard to new levels.

That said now that 10.4 is out I can't go back to 10.3 purely because of Spotlight.

Yep, i started on OS 9 when i bought my G4 for audio, than like a few months later OS 10 "X" came out and
i upgraded along with protools etc  what a bitch of a thing to do, lost most of my plugins.

I remember using Apple II/IIe's in elementary school (1990-1996). Mmmmm monochrome screens. Carmen Sandiego on the 5.25" Floppy! (That was on a color screen)

High School (1996-2002 [grades 7-12]) had Macs running systems 7-9. Hated using them, except of course for Oregon Trail!!! (Hells yea MECC!). In my junior or senior year they ditched all the Macs for Dells.

In my home, comming up 2 years since the switch. XP to Tiger. Best Money Ever Spent (seriously).

I was using 7.5 back in the day when "secret about box" easter eggs still existed. :apple:

I must have used an earlier version of a mac OS in grade school, but I don't know which one. Which one ran Oregon Trail II? We used to kill 900lb of meat even though we could only cary 200lb. Then died of dysentery :(

I think that was system 7.1 Wikipedia

I always hated that. Why did we have to let all that meat go to waste?

Is it me or did everyone and their mother choose their occupation to be "Banker"?

Curious... have a feeling a lot of people these days don't. Suspicious about all these people saying "Mac Oh Ess Ex" to me instead of "Mac Oh Ess Ten."

This drives me crazy. a guy i work with always says OS "EX" and everytime he does it i say ... you mean OS TEN... and he goes yeah OS EX

Sure I knew about OS 9 but it isn't something I'd consider using. Since about 1994 I have been using Unix like OSes at home. I had no interest in the Mac until the move to OS X.

Yes, but before I became a Mac user, I only knew of it.

I didn't know much, although I had use OS 8 in K-1st. I never really made a point to think about OS 9 so OS X became OS EX.

Once in a while I catch myself and say OS 10, but most of the time I called it OS EX
