To be fair, I used OS 9 after I was introduced to Tiger, but it was barely usuable when I did try it. I was expecting something a little better at least.

I found OS X really hard to use at the beginning.
I hated the lack of simple controls like Extension Manager and such

I always find myself correcting people, I can see as how they might find it annoying. OS 9.2.2 was good. I ran it until 10.2 came out. but really do we want to remember OS 7, or 8 or even 9.1? NO!

Curious... have a feeling a lot of people these days don't. Suspicious about all these people saying "Mac Oh Ess Ex" to me instead of "Mac Oh Ess Ten."

Of course.

I still prefer saying Mac Oh Ess Ex though. Probably because I relate it with UNIX more than previous Mac OS's.

7.6 was actually relatively stable. The OS got slower and less stable after that. (And 9.2.2 was mostly an upgrade to make it run better in the Classic environment, not really an upgrade for its own sake.) The whole "extensions" system was a mess that caused no end of conflicts and problems. I suppose if you just installed one or two programs and ran one of them at a time, the system might have worked OK, but trying to use it for actual work was aggravating. I can't say overall that it was actually better than Windows...just awful in different ways. ;) It did have some good ideas, but the execution was lacking. I'm glad Apple ditched the whole thing, though, because otherwise I'd never have gotten a Mac....

I'm a quite newly switched user (February 2005), and pronouncing it Mac OS Exxx (Due to it sounding a thousand times better in Swedish, where Mac OS Ten or Mac OS Tio in swedish just makes it loose its flow).
Even due to this I've been aware of Mac OS since 94-95 or so (had a few basic computer usage classes in fifth grade, 11 years old), and I've got an old Powerbook 5300c somewhere.

I'm one of all those *Nix-switchers that basically just switched due to it's UNIX base, having used Linux as my main selection of OS since 97. Struggling with getting it to work decently as a Desktop OS, Mac OS X came as a saviour as it's the only UNIX-based OS worth to be called "Desktop OS".

Ehm, just rambling here... To the point:

Yes, I do know that OS 9 exists, and I don't pronounce it Mac OS EXXXX due to ignorance, rather for it being easier to say and having a certain flow to it.
