just noticed a rather annoying google banner on the front page featuring a flashing "windows" box telling me my computer is infected and needs to be scanned. I know in the past Arn has removed offensive ads such as this from rotation. cheers -j
I don't understand advertisements like that. Are they trying to induce an epileptic seizure in the end user? Or are some people so incredibly dense as to click it because it's flashing like that?
You gotta remember not everyone has been using computers for years. If someone had just learnt how to use one, you know they'd push it (well on XP anyway).
My twelve year old brother clicks on everything he is told to. He's very obedient. Thanks for getting rid of it arn.
Because all system errors are reported in the form of banner ads. My wife does the same thing and refuses to use the Mac. The other day I was watching her on the computer and some sort of error popped up. She clicked something and went about her business. When I asked her what that was, she said, "I don't know. I just cliked 'Yes' and it went away." Somedays I think she is out to kill me...
Amen, arn is one good guy . Sorry to derail your thread, but what does arn do for a living besides MR?
LOL... it's amazing how ignorant people can be about their most important work-tool, which they use every day. I must say though, that I quite enjoy seeing these adds on apple-specific sites A
Sometimes those banner ads are the only relief I get from the little old lady across the street sending the latest "This is Cute" or "Warning" or "Please Forward" email. She clicks the banner thinking that it's her computer telling her she is infected and within minutes her computer "is infected" with tons of spy ware and viruses. Off to the local repair shop for a clean install... She could have bought a G5 iMac last year for what she spent on clean installs...no kidding. I keep telling her to get a Mac... I'm trying to take up a collection to get her a Mac Mini and let her use it next time her PC goes to the shop.
