I had a bunch of ebay cables and they worked perfectly fine with my iPhone 5 whereas the iPhone 5S it works intermediately.

The after market cable is not that much cheaper than the apple's lightning cable $19, I would just get the apple cable since it was introduce last year with the ip5, and it should last for many generation before something new comes out.

Ironically the Apple cable that came with my 5S doesn't work and is being replaced, while the Amazon cables I got as extras work just fine.

It is all because some woman got electrocuted by her aftermarket cable and then apple decided to put that, since she tried suing but lost. People are so annoying, was it really that necessary because it was apple she tried to sue.

youre gonna have to link me with it.... and do they have a 10 foot version?

It was a replica USB travel charger + IP4 + sketchy Northern China electrical power outlet, it wasn't a replica Lightening or the 30 Pin Cable that caused the accident.

I got a kit off ebay that came with 2 black flat lightning cables, a wall charge nub, and a car charge nub.

I just noticed that the ebay wall charge nub and ebay cable will not charge my iphone 5 ios7 anymore. However, if i take the ebay cable and plug it into an official apple wall charge nub, it gives the same warning message, but charges.

None of my knockoff lightning cables charge my iphone 5S. However it charges my iphone 5 running ios 7. Why oh why Apple?

Just make sure you buy certified cables in the future. Monoprice has ones that appear to be reasonable quality (although they are a little stiff) but they come in lengths up to 10 ft.

I use the same cable and it works fine on my 5s and my wife's 5c. No error message or anything.

My eBay cables charge my 5s, I just get the warning message when plugging it in.

I'm using the one that come in the box.

Plug it in when I go sleep and when I wake up I have a warning saying the accessory is not supported???

This along with other problems I have the 5s might get returned

With the reports of the woman who got electrocuted in China, Apple has every right to protect it's company interests from lawsuits by making sure people aren't using cheap unauthorized alternatives.

The electrocution was an issue of a knockoff power adapter, not the power cord. The power cord is benign. It was the power adapter in the wall that caused the issue.

Apple enabled the warning the same way that this occurred with the old 30 Pin. They are tired of being knocked off and want their licensing fee for every cord sold.
