Here are my observations. I figured I would share - I'm guessing there are quite a few 4k 32" people wondering if this is an upgrade or downgrade....

  1. My desk is now much cleaner, got rid of speakers and the smaller monitor foot print frees up a lot of space.
  2. monitor looks WAY WAY Brighter than my dell U3219Q, changing the experience quite a bit.
    1. as bright as my iPad Pro 12.9" (at default indoor brightness levels), which was a huge relief
  3. monitor is much sharper, obviously.
  4. The experience feels like you just got a new Mac, even though it's plugged into my m1 Mac mini.
  5. Sounds is great.
  6. Video is worse than my Logitech 1080p camera, sadly.
  7. I feel more drawn to use this than my Dell.
  8. UPDATE - Its works awesome for 5K Gaming with RTX 2080! The usb-c cable perfectly recognized all the hardware (screen and audio) and I was able to play 60 fps 5k gaming for the first time.

I picked it up for fun, assuming I might return it (I have 45 days with Best Buy). Right now I am wondering if I will ever be able to go back to the Dell U3219Q with low PPI 4k 32"....lol. Now I need to see if I can get it to play games with my windows desktop with a RTX 2080. - works perfectly.

Update - decided to keep it! The dell just got sold on offer up. :)

Even Marquis Brownlee said this monitor is a bad buy. GJ

For an influencer (widely known) to knock this product speaks volumes since most kiss apples a$$ on every product to be on their good side.

If you watched his review he compared it to a Roll-Royce and other luxury goods. Value is all about perspective and, make no mistake, if you use this monitor you will realize it's market positioning. It's not for everyone, but remember that value is subjective.

Nice way of saying a fool and his money. Marketing 101

This monitor would feel priced correctly at $1299
Let's say 1500 CAD, I would consider it. I've seen it at Best Buy and it IS a great screen. Camera deceived me a bit, but Apple will fix it in a software update. I was surprised by how thick it was, compared to my 24 inch iMac.

The 27-inch iMac had so much value, when you think about it. It cost basically 100 more, but it had a whole computer inside and it was also rather decent.

Basically 3 things :
1. Make the cable removable (for God's sake...)
2. Make it around 20% cheaper
3. Fix the webcam through a software update

...aaaaaand we've got a real winner here.

I came from a 32" 4K Samsung and didn't like the cheap plastic matte front.
I'm trying out a 28" 4K Samsung at the moment. I've been on an LG 5K but I wanted to try out a 144Hz screen to get a taste. I don't much like the matte screen either. I don't understand why almost all monitors are matte, including the screens on high performance Windows laptops.

He concludes by saying(in reference to ASD) "But yeah, no it's not a good deal". :p

Great to hear. But one point, your 12.9 iPad Pro is not the 2021 model right? That thing can blind you in viewing HDR video with over 1000 nits peak brightness in HDR.

Apple is not a VFM company. Its a luxury tech company. Some people like it, some people don't. But that's the way it is. MB looks things up from a VFM perspective because his viewers expect him to. It doesn't mean this monitor is a bad deal.
Define luxury when compared to a monitor? Its a bad deal no matter how you look at it. Even if the apple monitor was sprinkled with gold dust.

mine IS the 2021 model. On the desk and fully enabled, they look equivalent in brightness and clarity - they go well together. Using it for universal control
