2. AT&T is failing to provide their tiered data users with adequate UP TO THE MINUTE UP TO THE Kb usage tracking?

All the AT&T apologists in these boards make me sick.

AT&Ts real scam is forcing every iPhone user to have data. Because of that when he reaches his cap they automatically add more MBs v blocking his data.

If they disable 3G usage after your cap has been met, I'm sure a lot more people would be happy. However, they make a good chunk of their money from overage charges, so I doubt they'd do that.

Anyways, to the OP, if you get 2GB you wouldn't have to worry so much all the time if you were going to go over your monthly allowance.

Since ATT forces the consumer to purchase a 2 year data plan when you buy a new iPhone; overcharge data fees should not be applied until you pass the two year contract data maximum. If you signed up for the 2 gigs a month plan then in two years you are entitled to use up to 48 gigs.

Neither party losses or gains anything by doing it that way as far a data usage goes. Of course, ATT may not make as much in over usage fees by not doing by the month. I think it would offer some data management options for the consumer to address those times you find yourself in areas without wifi and need to use some unplanned data. Then you slow down the next month to hit the 2 gig month average you singed up for. It would become easier to manage your data maximums during the 2 year contract period.

It does not work that way so you have to pay attention to the data usage as you go, but you already know that. I'm glad I have the unlimited plan even though I do not think I will use more then 2 gig a month very often, I don't have to worry about it :).

Look, the bottom line is that there is 3 pages of responses all over $10. It's not the end of the world. You needed the data, you used it. You spent how much time getting $5 knocked off??? Hour, two. I understand that a dollar is a dollar but it just seems that it is more aggravation then it's worth to call up, bitch about ten dollars for something they should have charged you $15 for. Over is over, doesn't matter if it's by 1Mb or 5GB. Like I said earlier, you probably won't go over 200Mb next month. If you do they should charge you $15 dollars. That's the plan you have, if you are getting close each month just go up to 2GB and be done with it. What I find amusing in threads like this is there are people that act like $10 extra a month is going to break them. If it is I think you should really reevaluate you priorities before deciding to have the latest gadget. Do I feel sorry AT&T charged you for going over, no. Am I going to point my finger at AT&T and bitch about "the man" "the big corps", "their evil",no. No company is perfect, AT&T is far from it. They provide you with a service, they outline the rules of that services and you sign in agreement to those rules. Its that simple. Besides, it ten dollars, don't buy a coke for 10 days.

There ways to keep track of your data usage, AT&T isn't responsible for sending out text messages to every customer. If you knew you were getting close to using up your data allotment for the month, you could have called CS, and asked them to switch you to the 2GB plan for the month.

OFF TOPIC-Everyone thinks America is a joke....

POLITICS POLITICS POLITICS

no wonder everyone outside of this country thinks we're a joke

Yea,

Europe is swirling the bowl as members turn their heads as other countries chock on a bone that was forced down their throats by the others!

Central and South America couldn't find a person to laugh at said joke because they are all either being jailed by tin pot dictators or running as fast as they can to the US.

Canada.....well I hate to break it to you but you are the 52nd state, Isreal is the 51st.

And Asia is being overun by China, to be honest China is overrunning the world, because they finally figured out that with a billion people getting paid $1 a day they can out produce the rest of the worlds economies.

The US a joke get real.

The only real joke from the US is that people who own an iPhone4 seem to be hanging up on the rest of the world with their chins because of a faulty iP4 sensor.

UPDATE: Everyone is telling me to monitor my usage and i do, i checked the At&t app when i was in the car and i had 40mb left, i understand everyones reasoning, but don't tell me to monitor my data usage better, i even turned of my data usage after finding directions... the only other thing i could have done was not use my phone at all... i thought 40mb we enough to get some directions, apparently i was wrong
Clearly you don't check your data well enough, nor do you have a good enough understanding of how much data is used for a given activity.

Why should AT&T warn you? It's your responsibility to monitor your usage, not theirs. Stop crying and get over it.

Wow did you really have to pay 10 bucks to AT&T for 5 mb? Here in Canada I pay 10 cents a mb over

There is no way to accurately track your data usage. The AT&T app/website has a delay and the in-phone counter under settings has been proven to be inaccurate. (and even if it was one would have to reset it manually at billing time)

this reminds me of BofA and their utterly ****ed up overdraft system. only recently, after half the country freaked out about overdrafts and practically sued every bank out there, did they add the option to remove overdraft "protection". I agree that if you go over your data usage/bank account balance/whatever, you should lose access to the commodity in question, but if that was the case, these companies would lose out on a lot of profit. Overage charges are big bucks.

It's not AT&Ts job to monitor your minutes or your data usage....It's yours, plain and simple. Your the one that signed up for the plan, your the one usig the data, your the one responsible when you go over. To expect them to have to send you a text message when you get close is ridiculous.

Did AT&T say anywhere that they would warn us if we were about to go over? Even if they did, I think it would be really hard to track it up to to the minute. Besides, if AT&T did, OP would you really have stopped using Google maps?

Well i think you should count yourself lucky lol, my son is on the O2 text and web unlimited for £15, gets unlimited SMS and web for £15 I know they limit the "unlimited" but he don't use it that much outside the house. So they story goes like this lol. We top up my son every month £15 to get unlimited text and web but because he never phones anyone he had £95.63 credit in his phone, so I think that I won't top his phone up this month he can use the credit otherwise he would have had £110 credit in his phone that would never be used. So I didn't top him up on the 24th like he had to, he rings me in work on the morning of the 26th (from the home) to let me know that he has no credit left? So I ring o2 and they said it was because he used the Internet alot? So for the sake of not topping up £15 he used £95.63 worth of credit on Internet usage lol. I don't know what his usage was I don't know how to check that, but it had to be used anyway but I would have hoped it would have at least lasted a week lol

Why can't some people accept personal responsibility for their own errors? It baffles me how you even felt the need to make a thread regarding your mess up let alone feel that AT&T should be your personal babysitter to keep you from going over your plan limit.

With your logic if you were to get a speeding ticket you would probably be at the courthouse fighting the ticket because the police officer didn't give you a warning that you were about to go over the speed limit.

It would be more like the speedometer being completely wrong or non-existent.

A more reliable way to monitor your usage is in settings > general > usage. Reset it at your renewal date each month to see how close you are to your limit. It only shows cellular usage I believe, not wifi usage.
