That really stinks. How long ago did you purchase? Can you call up Apple Care to see if you can get a solution since the local store is not being cooperative?

I purchased on the 21st of july and the macbook pro arrived on the 26th. I called the applestore on the 4th of august and set up my appointment for the 5th since they were busy on the 4th. So, it's a pretty recent purchase.. So if I call applecare maybe they can sort it out?
Thanks

Just an update:
I went to my appointment yesterday and they asked to hold my mbp overnight(that sucks).
I'm supposed to hear from them today and hopefully get to pick it up.
They said they will take it apart, clean out all the thermal paste, reapply thermal paste, and then check the the heat sensors.

I hope this works.

Thanks

PS: Would have liked to have a new machine, but they weren't interested in that option...

Why would this be reason to give you a new machine?

Was it a stock configuration or BTO? If it was stock, replace the RAM to stock and ask for a refund immediately. Make a stink about this. They should have replaced it for you to begin with if this was the case, as you are still within the 14-day return period. Ask for a manager, get their name, and make your presence felt.

If it is BTO, call up Apple Care and explain the entire situation, including how the problem was not fixed. I mean, it is obvious to me that thermal grease is once again exiting through the exhaust fan, so they screwed up the repair (wink). Right?

All else fails, call up your credit card company (assuming you paid with a credit card) and tell them you received a defective item that the manufacturer refuses to repair or replace. That will get things moving, too.

It was not built to order. I did not pay with a credit card. Is the 14 day return period from when you payed for it online or from when you received it? I'm assuming having leaked thermal grease from the other side of the logic board is not good. She cleaned it but the thermal grease is still visibly there and I have not seen what it looks like on the other side. I can only assume it's the same or worse. Thanks Getz, I'll call applecare tomorrow.
