I wasn't Dux, wouldn't have been too far off though.

Totally different systems down here, High School achievements mean nothing to your Uni. You get in based solely on the result of a combination of internal (school-based) and external (NSW Board of Studies) examinations.

No real thing as University valedictorian etc as all the people who start in the same year may take 3, 4 or even 5 - 6 years if they're doing law (more if they do medicine right out of school) and most of us take a year off or go on exchange overseas during our stint at uni.

There's the university medal but that's a purely results based award to the best student graduating based on results - they may be graduating with people a few years younger than them as most uni medal winners stay on to do honours.

Aside from getting into a "good" school after graduation, the title, while certainly an honor, carries less weight than one would imagine for high school students. College / university is a different matter.

I was 25 in a class of 400. Pretty good - would have been around 15 had I not given up in Advanced Algebra mid Junior year... Oh well.

There is no such thing as Valedictorian in our school system, but I'll answer the question anyway. I'm in the last phase of high school and my grades are average at best. I excel in the fields that arouse my interest and fail in those that don't. To me, that's proof I'm on the right path :p

Bottom 50% at best in high school, but I went to a school system where parents beat their children if they got B's.

Magna Cum Laude in college, but I graduated when I was 35 which eliminated many of the distractions/maturity issues that come with traditional college aged folks.

Mature age students are the worst. Only there to learn .

I'm one now and am likewise living the cliche!!!

I was generally despised for being able to remember examples the professors gave as well as had no fear of participation. Most of the kids didn't want to look stupid in front of their peers, so they'd never answer or ask their own questions. I had no fear of looking stupid, I was paying big money to do so. :)

Haha we're practically exactly the same :! Uni generally is so much better when you're older/going through it for the second time. I wish I'd put as much effort into my first degree :). Mature-agers unite!
