A samsung t7 non-touch 2tb is the same speed, but $79 cheaper, and a smaller form factor. WD just doesn’t understand the market.

Samsung t7 non-touch is a decent drive, but if you need a SSD that does throttle performance I’d recommend the G-Technology mobile Pro SSD (TB3/2800MBs or G-Tech R-Series USB-C 560MBs

That case looks sleek.

Shock protection in a SSD?

Hard drives had some benefit to it. Perhaps to make t cheaper WD probably skimped on 'good quality'.??.... Thus the shock protection..

Like they always do.... My WD Element 4TB hard drive is getting slow once again.

how did you do this? I have a 512gb iMac and am looking for good external storage options. Thanks

I need to write down the steps because I failed 3x before stumbling upon a solution. Basically I fusion'd the drives (Both fast drives) so I could have 1 bigger boot drive without having to open up my iMac. Less frustration, less time. In the end, I have a 2.5TB "internal" SSD that makes the machine feel 3x faster on some chores, mostly account switching, but overall feels much faster. Before with just the 512GB SSD, the machine was sluggish.

Fusion-drive'ing an external + internal sounds dangerous.

Others have done it with success. I'm backing up to 2 different locations. I like to live on the wild side and the biggest benefit was I didn't need to open up the double sided tape iMac. win-win-win with my 2.5TB lightning fast boot SSD.

What an awesome solution! am I correct in assuming that this was done mostly to make it look like one disk, and not to take advantage of the caching features of Fusion? (Since the disks will be about the same speed?)

I have almost the same setup, a 2 TB USB C drive using with my iMac internal SSD. The only reason I won’t Fusion them after reading this (great) idea is because I swap the 2TB between the iMac and a MacBook Pro to edit video on the go. But I have to struggle with symlinking Home directories (Download, Movies, and Pictures).

How cool would it be if the iMac just had a slot where you can slot in an SSD...

Correct, for 1 fast bootup SSD
