I agree with Applejuiced...this is a rant. You're not going to listen but I want to up my posts...so here it goes.

Why can't I set up caller groups? True. You can't. Don't know why but if it bothers you that much, go to http://www.apple.com/feedback

Why can't I set up individual ring tones or message tones? You can setup individual ringtones but not messages.

Why can't I drag and drop phots into the phone even when it shows up in iPhoto? Because you have to go through iTunes to sync data onto the iPhone. Can you drag and drop photos from iPhoto onto a digital camera connected to your computer? If you want to put photos back onto your iPhone, arrange them into an album in iPhoto and sync that album onto your iPhone via iTunes. Done and done.

These are all things I could have spent less time trying to figure out IF a manual was part of the box. A manual? Seriously? Are you stuck in the '90s? If you want a manual THAT bad, there's one online. Also, Apple has NEVER included a manual in any of their iDevices.

I am not ranting, I am pointing out things that I feel Apple have cocked up on the phone. Some people on here act like I have crucified a child by pointing out and daring to post things that I ( ME) find wrong about the all conquering ,mighty iphone. It is a phone, a tool ( true a cool tool but still a tool) and in my opinion so far I have found it a retrograde step from my old tool. Agreed. Apple could have included all this into the iPhone. But sir, you are posting this in September of 2010...3 years after the original iPhone came out and all these issues have already been chewed up, spit out and rechewed. Why doesn't the iPhone do this? Why doesn't it do that? That's what the feedback link is for. That's how Cut/Copy/Paste and MMS came about. Use it or return your iPhone.

So cypher23 you are one of these ultra smart people who never need to read a manual before you can use any piece of equipment to it's fullest potential. Boy ,do I envy you.Apple may have never given manuals with their equipment, to be honest I hadn't really noticed, but every other phone I have ever owned have given some sort of manual to enable you, me, everybody to get the best out of the phone ,obviously, again, Apple are so far up their own and sooooo sure of the loyal following that they feel that they don't have too. Fortunately for me some people on here have taken pity on a technological Luddite like me and posted where I can find a manual online. THANK YOU.

Yes, you can set up individual ringtones BUT it is a very long winded way of doing it compared to my old Samsung phone.

No, you can't set up personalised message alert tones. Why is this? on my old Samsung I could.

Bluetooth on the iphone is a load of crap, it does not work with my imac computer. My old Samsung did.

I still don't get why you cant drag and drop phots from iphoto into my phone. Now my old Samsung couldn't do that but I could BLUETOOTH them
back and forth.

As for me posting this 3 years after the iphone came out I was under the impression that the Iphone 4 was released ,here in Great Britain, on the 24 June 2010.

Now all these problems may have been known about before on earlier phones but as I have only ever owned this phone the ONLY negative reports I remember hearing about the 4 were its antenna troubles, something which Apple quickly attempted to sort out. Now is it wrong to think that the updated phone would be at least compatible with mac computers and that things I took for granted on a 2 year old brick would be standard on this super dooper phone, obviously in this case I am wrong, stupid me.

As I have said previously, I have managed to circumnavigate some of the issues I have with the phone by getting certain apps, some I haven't, most I shouldn't have too because these simple thing should already be part of the phones system.

So cypher23 you just decided to regurgitate the posts made by previous posters without adding anything new or of use to the thread. You ,obviously to me, are a hardcore Apple fan who hates the thought that anybody may dare to point out failings with the almighty Apple. I have listened, and I have taken onboard what has been said now YOU, cypher23 go back and read again what I have said. In my first post the only question I asked was why wasn't there a manual, later when having to clarify my posts I asked why the simple things were ether not possible or not possible without going through itunes/some other application/something else.

Use it or return it. Well after a week and a half now I am getting to grips with it, perhaps I am not as smart as you cypher23 but I will get the hang of it and anyway I can't be arsed to go through sorting out the number transfers again.

Your move chuckles:D

LOL...touchy aren't we? First of all, I'm not here to enter a debate or argument. And to officially put on the record that I'm not perfect or as you put it, "ultra smart". Just young and tech savvy. If you need a manual, then good on you. I just don't think we should kill off a couple BILLION trees to put a manual in every iPhone box and neither does Apple. Which is why an online manual has existed since day one on the Apple website.

Now you mentioned that the only negative reports you've heard about the 4 was the Antenna, well that's because all the issues that you are having with it aren't issues but rather shortcomings (yes, I said shortcomings) that have been documented since the original iPhone came out. The different versions of the iPhone have been traced and well documented and their features, or lack thereof have also been well documented. Here in the US we believe in caveat emptor and do a great deal of research about something before we buy it. For example, everytime Apple announces a product, there is usually a buzz all over the internet right before the announcement about what features the new product may have. Immediately following the announcement, there's usually a bigger buzz about features were left out. So we go in buying the product already knowing what it can and cannot do.

Now the iPhone is and forever will be linked with iTunes. If you want data on it, you gotta use iTunes. Unless Apple allows syncing via Bluetooth, which I doubt they will, then that's just how it's gonna have be. But hey, think of it like this, using the cable is just like Bluetooth, except with your cable, you have a physical indication that it's connected! AND...it charges your iPhone AT THE SAME TIME! Isn't that great?! Were you able to charge your old Samsung via Bluetooth?

Hey, I'm sorry you're disappointed with your iPhone. Apple does have the return policy in place. But if you believe that you are going to come to an Apple fansite, title your OP, "What a disappointment.." and then say that it's not a rant, then complain about issues that have been well documented and not expect to get blasted about it, then I don't know what to tell ya...but rather than saying it's a disappointment and blasting the iPhone by publicly saying it's a 4.5/5 out of 10, why not say, that it did not meet your expectations? That's all I'm saying...

Trust me I ain't ranting, you should read what I say about nissan F!!!!!G micra drivers.

You keep going on about research. Don't you think that the things I have listed should have been standard? I ( mistakenly as it turns out) thought that the super dooper iPhone would have all the functional uses that a two year old samsung would have. I looked at the issues I knew about and decided that the small connectivity risk that some people had pointed out AND the fact that apple had come up with a bodge to sort it and decided that this was the phone for me.

Now there are no real problems with the phone except for the lack of features I took for granted on my old phone are not standard on this one. Some I have managed to circumnavigate by getting apps some I have yet to get round but I will.

What is beginning to bug me is the attitude that some people here have regarding me pointing out things which in my opinion apple have cocked up on and them taking it as a sort of blasphemy agains apple!

I believe that Apple intentionally crippled the bluetooth stack in order to stop people from circumventing it's app ecosystem. If you could easily transfer music to and from the device via BT, then iTunes becomes irrelevant; pictures, iPhoto; etc.

Like you said, your best option is to simply accept the fact that the features you once took for granted are now gone; however, I would argue that if you embrace the new way of doing things (cloud-based syncing [hopefully soon for iTunes], specific app-based features, and so on), you'll find the the iPhone actually does an all around better job than your previous phone did at syncing and moving around the media you enjoy.

Rory,

The best thing to do if you are new to it, is to book a Genius bar appointment at your nearest Apple store. They will show you how to do everything! Brilliant service every time. That is something you can always guarantee with Apple. Well that is certainly my experience.
