There weren't too many iPads and mini around but oddly no white mini and no black regular in the 16gb

I sure hope things get better for everyone in that horrible situation now. Your post certainly puts things in perspective.Shipping Nightmare!
So place an order with Apple last friday. They send me confirmation of delivery on Nov 2nd and give me a UPS tracking number stating it was shipped Oct 28th. 2 days go by and the UPS site still doesn't recognize the tracking number. I call UPS and they tell me this number is invalid and I need to contact the shipper because based on the ship date I should have received my package today. I call Apple, they tell me my order is to be here Nov 6th. WTF. My receipt from UPS says delivery on Nov 2. Horrible experience! So bottom line nobody knows where the package is and nobody has a valid tracking number for it. I said, OK how about you arrange for me to simply pick one up in a store since you charged my card a week ago? No dice. You simply have to wait till it's resolved. Which could take weeks they tell me! Wow. I expected more from them. Guess I was expecting too much. Oh well. So this was last night. I had an Apple person call me back last night and say "I promise you will get it tomorrow". On UPS it shows it's been stuck in Calgary for 2 days and hasn't moved. Won't be here today for sure now! Oh well I guess just have to be patient! Frustrating that's all

Apple Store Newmarket only had White 64 GB and Black all sizes. We were going to get the Black but thought about it more and bought the 4 instead along with the case..
Right. Because having local news programs and journalists reporting on how the new product is selling out immediately is so worrisome. Poor guy probably is frowning his way to the bank...in his private jet.
Selling out of iPad minis is hardly a bungle. Do you remember previous product launches where there was a 4-6 week wait almost immediately?
Sorry for your situation, hang in there.
Our office is just north of the power outage area, and when I finaly ventured out to the office after being holed up at home most of the week, I discovered that the bank downstairs had become an inpronptu charging station for people from the blackout areas bringing in their phones and laptops to charge. It was a very surreal feeling watching all those people hunkered down on the bank floor waiting for their devices to charge.
I spoke to a manager at Best Buy last night, he has no clue and said it could be days before they do. Same goes for Future Shop. I got extremely lucky and my husband checked the Apple store here in Calgary when he drove past it this morning, they'd just gotten more stock in and picked up the exact model/color I wanted.
Just walked out of my local best buy with a 16gb wifi iPad mini. This was a lot easier to get than I expected.
Well, obviously he lived in a Escher sketch...

For me, it was super-easy to get a mini. I walked into my local Apple Store at 8:15am and was done in under 10 minutes. I know that the local Best Buy also had them in stock because a girl who was at the Apple Store bought one at Best Buy and came to the Apple Store to buy a Smart Cover.
