Alert lights are tacky!

One of the (many) pieces of design genius in the MacBook is the way that the alert light is only visible when the screen is off.

The MacBook's screens are much larger, and it's a laptop, not a phone. The iPhone is one of the only business phones I've seen that does not use an alert light or even a simple notification in the top taskbar of any text/emails that you have not read.

Oh yeah, and that weather app is useless if it's going to provide a static number (73* in my case) and so is the clock app. I think both should provide real-time information so you don't have to wait the extra 3 seconds to open them.

if apple implemented an alert light, I'm sure they would do it in a way that was innovative, not tacky

i think that a glowing/pulsing white led (like what's used on macbooks) would be classy.

And a nice unobtrusive place to put it would be where the little white square is on the home button.

i would be okay with a a green led like the one used on isights, as long as it's behind the glass and not visible unless lit.

either way, you're crazy if you think that an alert light wouldn't be helpful

That's the best mockup I've seen thus far. Is that new? I'd be very happy if the new one turned out looking similar to that.

Yeah, that looks insane. If that came out right now with all the rumored features I would buy it in a second.

PLEASE!!!!

They could hide it behind the glass near the proximity sensor near the top - there's IR LEDs under there, so no doubt they could put a notification light there too, with a setting to turn it off for those who don't want it.

Or at least put some sort of an email notification on the home screen.
