Not the same thing, getting up out of your couch or bed to change the tv is more of an inconvenience than pressing a button on your phone. To say pressing a button on your phone is an inconvenience is just lazy.

Why? Wait let me guess, because you define pressing a button easier?

Does this apply to all button pressing or the removal of such? We'd be a race of real lazy bastards if that was the case.

Regardless of how you try to manipulate the word lazy it not a synonym with convenient, easier, etc.

It would generally be easier for notifications to pop up with movement of the phone. Like tilting it on your night stand or picking it up off a desk and especially pulling it out of your pocket. It's going to move slightly anyway with a home button press, or your going to be picking it up.

One less step is REQUIRED. And that is why the word lazy doesn't work. To do all the necessary steps isn't lazy, to add an unnecessary step is just dumb.

Looks like I've been living under a rock since the M7 is quite a bit

Is it even being used by anyone. I've not heard anything about it since apple unveiled it?

Screenshot is for Flex, but it looks exactly the same for 5s, except it says 5s. I think the motion sensing is so cool :)
