To me the bottom line is about convenience and appearance. Any Ad Blocker you use must have access to your browsing history and active tabs else it could not perform it's function.
Ghostery, as it's name implies attempts to make you as "invisible" as possible which it does quite well and secondary to that function prevents targeted ads to a degree but at the end of the day, if you are on the web you are visible and your activity is being monitored if only by the sites you visit and the browser you use.
Preventing tracking as much as possible, ensuring your activities are not logged and encrypted in transit is the best that can be achieved. A good VPN and DuckDuckGo will do that for you, beyond that everything else is window dressing.

Wipr must be lying then.

Wipr must be lying then.
They are not lying, they built the Wipr as a Safari content blocker extension, and not as a normal extension. That way they don’t need access to your browsing history, etc.

https://developer.apple.com/documentation/safariservices/creating_a_content_blocker

“Apps tell Safari in advance what kinds of content to block. Because Safari doesn't have to consult with the app during loading, and because Xcode compiles Content Blockers into bytecode, this model runs efficiently. Additionally, Content Blockers have no knowledge of users' history or the websites they visit.”

That’s BS!

As I noted upthread, I just got Wipr. Now it's been about a week, and I've barely seen an ad anywhere, and I've had to do just about nothing to achieve that. Since the perfect is the enemy of the good, I'm very happy with it.

I just installed AdBlock Plus.

It's free, and seems to be doing a good job.

You? And is is free or paid for?
same as you. The one thing I hate about ad blockers now like this one is that when you see an ad you don't like you can't right click any more and block it. only on Chrome. That was all taken away in Safari afaik.

Currently testing AdGuard and seems to be working perfectly on Safari app/extension Apple Silicone.

Two settings off, Safari icon and "Advanced blocking" any reason and better performance turning those settings on?
