All freezing is not created equally ;)

The freezing that was fixed in November was due to faulty GPU firmware and fixed with an update.

One can only assume the OP's freezing is as a result of some hardware failure or other, presumably the GPU or logic board.

we can only hear from another user :p

haha, jk

Finally got it back! Works great now! They thought it was the video memory at first but called me and told me it was the hard drive! I don't really understand how a bad hard drive could make the screen do that though. Oh well all that matters is that it works now.

..

Wow. I want to know how a bad HD can do that too, considering HDs are pretty much the most unreliable part of a machine, I've never heard of anything like that.. Can someone explain how that might work? Not making any sense to me, hehe.

Glad it's working now though, but with a diagnosis like that I'd be a little cautious about it inexplicably coming back.. (i dont trust people to repair stuff right, haha)

Maybe its somthing to do with the location of all the different bits in the iMac case..? So bizarre.

I have the same problem. It wont go away and it is driving me crazy!!

Well I'm glad it all worked out for you, bennypod.
But I have to say I really don't see how a defective hard drive could result in the problem you were having.

Thinking of the same thing...

Green dots began to
show a couple of days after updating Windows...
Maybe a driver conflict using Windows XP ??? Or
maybe after installing McAfee... I don't remember.
I hate Windows

I don't remember
if I had those green dot during XP session but after formating
OSX, the dots were still there, after removing XP with Bootcamp,
still there, but after a top clean install without XP, everything is
fine...

In between those formating hours, a short trip tp the Apple store:
(the genius tolds us it was the cable from the graphic card to the
logic board) but after some stress test (CPU/MEMORY/VIDEO...) the
Apple tech were not able to reproduce the problem so nothing was
change inside the machine...

Anyway, If someone have any update, I'm anxious to read your post...

Great forum by the way !!

I seem to have found a cure...

I had the same problem with the green dots on my 17 macbook pro.
It seems to be caused by overheating so I downloaded smcFanControl and set the speed to 6000rpm on the fans, the temperature came down to around 57ºC and the dots on the screen disappeared.
According to a Mac repairman it is a problem of the logic board that will eventually make your mac crash, but if that happens you should take it to an authorized mac dealer or Mac Store and they will get the part replaced at no cost, or so they say, the computer gives a code to whoever is fixing it in order to ask for the replacement, but if your computer doesn't show the code, you can't get the replacement and it costs over $1,000USD to have it replaced out of warranty.
Check with an authorized Mac repair shop or Mac Store, but as far as I am concerned, cooling down the computer helps.
