Get off your high-horse. A warranty is bought to be used when your item breaks - why else would you have a warranty, to cover the item if you break it. In this situation, people have an option of buying the warranty before or after it breaks. It is illogical and a waste to buy a warranty, when you have a choice, if you don't need it. However, when you do need it - you can purchase it.

Squaretrade is getting $200 to fix my screen - same price Apple is charging.
Sure. Call up squaretrade, tell them you already broke your phone and you want to buy a warranty to cover it. Let me know how that works out for you.

You know you can cancel the warranty? So you could buy it, submit the claim, then just cancel the warranty and get a refund for most of what you paid for coverage. So it would cost less than $200.

Squaretrade sometimes used non-OEM parts.

They also don't cover damage that's only cosmetic or "which does not affect the functionality of the covered product". So I don't think it would work.

You also need to have 90 days left on your Apple warranty to buy the "I dropped my phone" coverage.

Again, I say go for it. Buy the warranty and let us know how it works out for you.

I am pretty sure once you use the service Squaretrade will not let you cancel it.

Correct. I just found the "catch"

You CAN cancel it after a claim. They just deduct the cost of any claim from the refund. It took a bit to find it in the small print. :)

Again to the OP: I say go for it. Just make sure you report back on your frau... I mean your experience.
